This is a GIA ex ex ex stone that score 2.4 on the HCA.
Please give your impressions of the stone.
I believe the light leakage is not serious and this would be a reasonable buy if the price were right.
I'm not Garry but I think the answer might be that some stones that show leakage or are slightly off are a bad deal when priced the same as stones that do not and are better performers. So if this stone was commanding the same price as say, one of the Infinity Diamonds AGS0 stones, it would be a bad purchase as you could get a better performing stone for the same price.
BUT if the vendor has taken the leakage into account and has discounted the stone accordingly then it could be worth the saving of several hundred to several thousand dollars to you if you don't absolutely need Infinity perfection, for example.
Not everyone needs the precision cutting of an Infinity or a Hearts on Fire. What Garry's rating does is acknowledge that, but warn you that the stone should be discounted to reflect the performance compromise these stones offer.
Florescence? And is it in a BM or online? https://www.pricescope.com/diamond-search-results/ Use this tool to find comparable stones (look at stones with comparable measurements) and then you can see how good a deal you are getting.
well according to the pricescope list it seems to be a pretty good deal.
how severe do you think the light leakage is? also the outer edges seem to have a lot of leakage, but i've heard this can be a good thing.
Yeah it looks like a nice stone, but I don't think there is an idealscope image to see, plus I think its too much trouble going down the pre-owned route.
As for the other, I guess other than the slight leakage, symmetry is pretty good and very clean. Seems to be a good price.
To what extent do you consider this kind of leakage important?
It's nicer than 99% of diamonds out there. I'm a diamond nut so the extent to which it would potentially impact me is different from the average person. I think that anyone other than a diamond nut would be thrilled with it. I know Pricescopers that have similar rings in 2 to 3 carat sizes so even some Pricescopers would be happy with it. And we are an extreme bunch. The only thing I can think might be an issue is obstruction and I'm not qualified to judge that, I'll ask someone who is to come on over and comment though.
The stone will not be quite as active across the whole face of the stone as a more "perfct" stone. But I suspect it is not noticable in person to most viewers. It depends on your own personal tolerace and preference in your diamonds. For *me*, in an RB, I like really top performance because RBs are all about performance to my eye. The price is good. But you could dip below 1ct and save even more money and get a totally awesome performer. So YOU need to decide what matters. Being over 1ct? Having a mind clean stone in terms of performance?
