Okay, without much backstory...have you heard of jewelers (think Diamond District in NY) who give GIA reports that do not match the diamonds they sell?

I think I probably know the answer to this...and I''m sure the only way I can find out if my diamond is the one they claim corresponds with the GIA they gave my FI is if I get it appraised...but just to confirm--you think this might have happened?

also, SI1 can have visible inclusions, right? and an H will obviously look warmer than an F if put up right next to one another? ::sigh:: driving me the least bit crazy.

I'm sure it happens, there was just an article in rappaport news about it that someone posted this week. And yes, it's best to get it appraised if you think something shady happened. But I don't think it happens often, and sometimes it could just be a paperwork mistake.

An SI1 can certainly have visible inclusions, but doesn't always. And an H and F of the same size, cut quality, and shape, put next to each other should have a slightly visible difference in hue, especially from the side. But I personally don't think it's very dramatic...

At least once a month and sometimes as often as once a week someone comes to me for an appraisal with a stone and lab report that don’t match one another. Almost always it’s a new purchase from a non-traditional jeweler and, almost always, the reason for the deal was a ‘bargain’ price.
