Does it make sense to consider GIA cut grade VG stone that scores .6 on HCA? I am concerned that there may be a difference between excellent and very good cut grades that would be noticeable. I am also looking at a few stones, also GIA graded, with cut quality excellent, and appropriate HCA scores. Would there be a significant difference from an AGS graded ideal stone? The numbers, etc. are below. I can buy the stone and return it if I don''t like it.

Yes, VG cut grade can certainly be an option, for this diamond you mentioned, could you get an Idealscope image for it please? As to any differences between the cut grades etc, you have to evaluate each on an individual basis, again Idealscope image can be invaluable for comparison.

Lorelei, I guess that my question is whether I should dismiss this stone out of hand since I can get other ones for evaluation. In your experience, judging merely on cut quality, would there be a visible difference?

Looks like it could be good, but you should confirm with an Ideal Scope picture.

I think this diamond could be well worth consideration, especially if you could get an Idealscope on it, ideally I would personally prefer to see the crown angle at 34 - 34.5 degrees with that pavilion angle, also check out the very thin part of the girdle also with the seller, but it could be a lovely diamond. Whether there would be much difference between this diamond and another very much depends, many variables.

Can you actually see these diamonds in person?

It might have made GIA excellent, but I think it''s getting dinged for the very thin girdle (which represents a durability risk).
