Well, I know some of you are probably wondering what ever happened to OFG. I finally got my engagement diamond back into the solitaire, now with a 4-prong head. Still waiting for my Quest rework to be done. I talked to Pete last Thursday, and he said it should be done by the middle of this week. Then I just have to get appraisal done & hopefully all will be done.

Funny, I thought about you just this morning, and considered bumping your thread. But then I thought I better not, that you would fill us in if you wanted to, and you did!

So, did discussions/planning go well? do you think it will be acceptable? and did you get to pick the 4 side stones? Sorry for all the questons, but I really do care!

Thanks, Ellen! I appreciate it. I don''t have much news since that other thread. I met w/ Pete on June 10 & dropped off setting & other diamond, and that last "update" thread was a few days after that. He had gotten in 4 new diamonds, so it wasn''t like I was choosing from a batch, just approving those 4. And as I sort of expected, they looked like the same color in some lighting, but I am no expert, and have no idea how they will appear mounted. We looked at them with one of those little scopes that checks arrows, and all seemed to have sort of decent arrows, except one we didn''t think so much, and the diamond of the same size that was already in the ring seemed to have better arrows, so he said we''d use that, and I said, fine as long as the color matches these other 3 diamonds, which of course you couldn''t really judge w/ one mounted and the others not.

After the update thread, where I talked about the prongs vs. ribs, and everyone seemed to prefer eliminating the ribs & just using prongs, which I was leaning toward as well, I told Pete on email/phone to go ahead with that idea (prongs rather than ribs so that the outermost diamonds won''t be so covered up). I told him I didn''t want the ''nubs'' but rather leave the holes as they were. I also told him I want a horseshoe sizer rather than the sizing beads. If you recall in the update thread, I asked if he thought there was any hope for the ring not deforming again -i.e. give the hinged shank another chance, but he didn''t think so because of how badly it had deformed originally, so he is taking away the size 5 hinged shank and changing it to a solid size 6.5 shank. I also had talked of tweaking some minor things, but what I''ve said here were the main changes. Oh and of course, changing the center stone from my e-diamond to another from DH''s aunt. It''s about 0.4mm larger diameter than my e-diamond, if I remember right, so hopefully it will not change the look of the ring in a negative way. Of course, none of this is ideal. If I had known in January that the hinged shank would deform in a matter of days, I would not have gone down this road at all. If I''d known in the end this was just a reset of aunt''s diamond, I could have skipped custom and bought a nice setting - oh well, don''t have time to explain the whole thing but I think you know the story. So anyway, I guess we''ll see if it is acceptable, but it didn''t seem like there was much choice. Hopefully, they will do the best they can (Pete said that is why it''s taking so long, is he wants to take the time to do it right), and since it''s just the other diamond, and I won''t be wearing it all the time, I shouldn''t be so picky about it. He did seem to be trying to get it right, as far as the side diamond quality etc.. Plus I was glad he suggested eliminating the ribs & changing to just prongs on that outer diamond. But I must say this whole experience has so jaded me on jewelry I can''t even say. Even trying to get my e-diamond into a nice 4-prong head was unbelievable - but I don''t have time to go into that saga. That took up a ton of time the past few weeks, so I am so far behind, between so much time spent on this ring this past 6 months, and selling DH''s aunt''s house & the zillions of time-consuming things that went along with that, and also DH''s father''s house now, I will just be glad when the whole ordeal is over.

I am convinced that there is some kind of curse attached to me when it comes to diamond rings. I just got a call from Pete, and he said their laser machine is not working, and my ring is delayed. If I could detail for you all of the things that have gone wrong with my e-ring saga over the past 6 years, and particularly this year, including unbelievable things the past few weeks just trying to get a simple 4-prong Tiffany-style basic 4-prong head on my solitaire, I am more & more convinced there must be a curse.

(Even stupid minor things like 2 separate times at 2 separate jewelry stores, I called ahead & asked, "will [this salesperson] be in tomorrow?" "yes" Neither were in. One called in sick, and the other had a family emergency. I almost feel like apologizing to them sometimes, like, "I'm sorry about your family emergency; it was probably due to my e-ring curse..." But seriously, there were many more things that went wrong - too many & complicated to list...) It is really uncanny....

Ok, this made me laugh. I don''t know if you meant it to be funny, but it was.

The thing is, I can relate, I have had the same uncanny luck with jewelry too. Unbelievably so... So hang in there, and hopefully you''ll love the ring when it''s done, whenever that is.

And I guess I forgot he had only brought in the 4 stones...At any rate, please keep me posted!

Thanks Ellen! It''s fine that you laughed - I did mean for it to be kind of funny, and I am getting so used to this that I just almost have to laugh at it. Otherwise it''s like the twilight zone. On the day of the "family emergency" incident, I spent a LONG time with a different sales person than the one I had been dealing w/ (the one w/ the emergency), and finally settle things & go to the registers, and their computer was shut down. And I''m thinking, "it''s my curse..." So they''re hand-writing a receipt, and then they say, "$x + $y for labor" and I say, "No, wait a minute, [salesperson w/ family emergency] said it was $x including labor." (I even had an email to prove it.) I mean, how much more can I get these jewelers to get their story straight without having them sign an affadavit in blood? What is the point of asking them questions when all the answers are always wrong? So in the end they didn''t do it. So I have to watch it, or I am going to start believing there really is a curse! I don''t wish it on anyone, but it is comforting in a way to know that I''m not the only one! But I am glad that your Leon aqua ring evaded your bad luck in the end, and also I don''t know about how you got there (what bad luck it entailed), but I also love your e-ring. It is so gorgeous. When I was working on getting my diamond back into solitaire, I was checking old threads for solitaire etc., and there was one where people were posting the prettiest solitaires, and yours was one of my favorites.

OFG- I''ve not words of advice but just wanted to say i''m sorry

Aw, thank you mam!

Once I got past trying to buy locally (read: nightmare stories about local jewelers and all the BS they tell you/put you through, plus almost being ripped off by the place I actually purchased a ring from first), it was piece of cake getting the Ering I have now.

Thank goodness you thought to bring the email. And yeah, many times the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing....Affadavit in blood works.

OFG, I just wanted to say that I usually just a lurker, but i have followed all your threads on this because I honestly feel sympathy for you and hope that everything turns out okay with your ring in the end. And I really do like the design. I know there are probably other lurkers on PS who are cheering for a happy resolution to your ring saga. Best wishes.

Thanks, mrssalvo, Ellen, and loverocks! I appreciate it. Now that I at least have my e-diamond back on my left hand in the solitaire, I am relieved. Plus it looks so much better in 4-prong than it did in 6-prong. As for the other ring, I appreciate the wishes, and I too hope it turns out to be a beautiful RHR. I try not to think about it at all, because I don''t want to get stressed out, and there is nothing I can really do at this point anyway, so all I can do is hope & pray they do a good job. The only other bother is, I still have to get the appraisal finished, and - well, long story, - let''s just say I can''t wait until my jewelry "to-do list" has all the items crossed off! Oh, and I also appreciate the compliments (on this & the other older thread) on the design! It does make me feel better.
