I've recently started seriously looking at some designs and styles that I think would be nice and my GF would be happy with. It doesn't help when she says why not something that's different. However I also know, i tend to take too many risks, so i've had good friends help control my wild imagination, and just keep it simple with small twists.

After many ideas from tension settings to marquise cuts.. i've decided on a 4 prong on a round brilliant, but with a NSEW prong setting instead. I like that it's just a little different to be noticed, and i do feel it helps retain the "roundness" of the stone compared to the prongs on the diagonal.

I've just graduated not long ago so obviously i don't have thick wads of cash.
I'm looking at an F/VS1/.47C/ with excellent ratios, really does look very nice.

and i've 3 settings that fit the prong bill, would appreciate any opinions!

Most inclined to the "amanda". Stephanie looks a bit "flimsy" and Keira is kinda bold with the prong. Amanda lends itself the feminine touch. Of course, i'm so noob at this i'm expecting i'm not thinking very logically!

another twist would be using rose gold instead. I thought of doing full rose gold, but I read this:
http://veramontague.hubpages.com/hub/Rose-Gold-Engagement-Rings
which recommends rose gold with a backing of white gold to really make the rock pop.

It's really stressful, yet exciting at the same time! I can't wait!!

Any pics of your own rings that may be similar to the above would be awesome!

no help?

When I was looking at setting styles I bought a fake ring to see how it looked on me and if I really liked it.
It was plain solitaire with four prongs tiffany-ish style but prongs on n-s-e-w like those you posted. I actually loved the look but ended up deciding on a different setting with a profile I liked better.
However, the settings you linked to are all very beautiful and have way nicer profiles than the cheap fake I had!
I would post pics but I don't think it's allowed to post stimulants. :wink2:

I agree with you that it's just different enough to be unique, and it does help keep the roundness of the stone.
I vote for amanda for my first choice and stephanie for second.
profile view is very important for me bcuz that's mostly what us girls can see for the most part unless we tilt our hands to stare at the diamond. (which I admittedly do like every 5 minutes)

That's actually really pretty too but I'm not sure it'd be too much for her.

Wonder if it'd look weird without the microstones.
Perhaps the centre shank could be in rose gold.

I like the Amanda. But I would do all white metal because it goes with everything! A narrow diamond wedding band would be beautiful with it, too. Save the rose gold for a right hand ring later if she likes it. It is best to stay with something that won't go out of style or be hard to match up with a wedding band unless the girl is helping choose her ring and has specified she wants something particular.

man i'm really liking the sholdt design haha but that's gonna jack up the price!

I'm in Singapore so I probably can't find that, but my jeweler can probably do something similar.

I like the movement and curviness of the stephanie best. I think It is a nice twist on a classic solitaire.

out of the ones you posted, the Amanda is my favorite.

I'm actually pretty torn w the sholdt design gypsy put up. Love
It's elegance.
Mix up with that and amanda

http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/sholdt-jewelry/rings/24ZZ1/ This is my favorite setting with that prong orientation.

I don't know if you can get Sholdt where you are, but I really like this setting better than those you posted. So maybe, if you like it too, you can consider this setting for your lady?

Thanks gypsy! After alot of looking around. Your design stuck
With me! The vintage touch just grew on me. Its so tasteful without bein 'too much' for reserved Singapore.
Chose it in rose gold. And my jeweler will narrow the shoulders cos the center stone's
Not as big as in that link!
Have been contemplating whether to leave out the milgrain though.

so decided on the stone:

costs 1695USD

Specs:
Round Brilliant
5.04 - 5.07 * 3.04
0.47 Carat
F Color
VS1
Excellent Cut/Polish/Symmetry
No Fluorescence
table 58%
TD 60.1
CA 33.5
PA 40.8
Girdle Med:slightly thick
No Culet

Looks about right for that price yeah? =)

Ok

done!

well the mil grain doesn't look as masterful as Sholdt. Maybe cos it's only half carat so the shank had to be thinner, thus the mil grain is much finer.

Still a pretty good job I must say.

What do you guys think?!

pardon the photos though, my photography's so bad! i've no idea how to adjust the light angle and focus etc etc to get the shots we see here.. =(

That is lovely. What a pretty stone. When will you propose?

I'm gonna do it on my birthday later this month =)

it's after our Chinese New Year. And during such holidays, families and old relatives always visit each other. So i'm expecting a bombardment of questions as to when I'm going to marry/propose. I'm all set!

The prongs are slightly out of alignment so i'm bringing it back in abit for them to straighten it out.

It is a very pretty ring..

had it sent back to rework the prongs.. it was slightly misaligned.

also, it was a knife-edge all the way around when it was supposed to be halfway round.

Thats a lovely setting. I'm sure your GF will be thrilled. :)
