Getting confused and a bit stressed on ring setting - advice?

I really like the look of 18k gold. And kcoursolle is right about the palladium. I believe that Fay Cullen uses palladium in 18k rings so the look would be more like platinum.......

You could also consider some Beverly K rings. There would be no question about the quality and they are gorgeous! I also believe that Pearlmans offers a PS discount.

those designs are similar and do seem very high quality, although they are a little overwhelming or too "royal" almost. For some reason I can''t imagine it on my gf''s 24 yr old hand haha. See how picky I am? it''ll drive you nuts =P

But next weekend when I go to some shops to check stuff out i''m going to try and drag along a friend of ours so I can see it on a look-alike hand. =D I bet certain stuff looks "eh" by itself but better when its on.

UPDATE - WHITEFLASH CUSTOM DESIGN QUOTE

So just for reference, I asked whiteflash for a price quote for a custom ring basically copying the design in my first post in this thread. They quoted $1,550 for 14K white gold, $1,695 for 18K, and $2,495 for platinum.

And again, my local store estimated their price at $2,000-2,200, making WF''s quote about $300-500 more.

This may not be such a good idea... some women loathe the fact that someone tried on their ring with you first, and a friend taboot? Doesn''t sound like a good idea to me just to be safe. In fact, someone posted a similar thing recently and she was quite upset by it. I''d just hate for you to ruin anything with the rings after all this hard work, so I wanted you to keep that in mind.

Maybe it''d be better to have a female sales associate at the store show them on her hand instead? Good luck!

very true. thanks for the reminder (us guys are dumb sometimes). i totally agree though. what if I just brought her along to suggest different styles? she knows my gf''s taste pretty well and being a girl that also helps (i mean... obviously how many guys go shopping for their gfs haha, its the other way around usually). I wouldn''t be relying on her to pick a final design, maybe just suggest things that I may not look at initially if i were shopping alone. that a bad idea too? =/

I''m not surprised by the Whiteflash quote. Custom is never cheap, and like everyone said, the quote you already got was in the right neighborhood to begin with. In particular, I remember reading that Whiteflash custom work can be on the expensive side.

I''m surprised no one has mentioned Single Stone yet. They make high-quality antique reproductions, and many people on this board have worked with them. They''re not cheap either, and I wish their website offered more than one tiny picture of each ring. Do a search on this board for Single Stone, singlestone, or Ari, then contact them for a quote.

How stable is the relationship your GF has with this friend? Are there any insecurities or jealousies about her? If so I''d say don''t take her, but rather someone else that everything is "all good" with in the eyes of your GF if you know what I mean. If this friend fits that bill, then by all means take her along for opinions and ideas. Maybe even clear the friend choice with your GF since she knows this process is happening? Just absolutely refuse to allow her to try on any of the rings you''re thinking about, even if she promises to keep it a secret.

yeah, the more i think about it the more i realize how careful i gotta be now =P I think if anything I might just bounce ideas off of this person (its actually my gf''s cousin''s cousin if that makes sense, so I think thats a better situation then it being some unrelated random mutual friend). and she''s probably the only useful person who i can bounce ideas off and trust that she won''t spread the secret =P
so i will definitely limit involvement as much as possible. thanks for the advice i appreciate it! =D
