I'm currently about to buy a diamond ring for the diamonds from it.

http://is01.thegumtree.com/image/extrabig/119569173.jpg

Its 3 x .33ct emerald cut diamonds.

now two will be used as side stones for the main stone.

Now I need two .15 stones as side-side stones lol Its an art deco style setting.

http://www.hirschfelds.co.uk/IMAGE/C0200.JPG (like this but with bigger diamonds!)

Now im wondering could i get the spare 3x5mm .33 stone cut in half? into two 2x3's?

Just wondering would it be better/cheaper to sell the spare .33 and setting (maybe just replace the diamonds with some blue sapphires etc)and buy some .15's?

I've just no idea how much diamond cutting like this would cost. im in the uk but could post easy enough to most places.

It simply doesn't work like this. The diamonds are cut in specific angles. With diamonds this small, it will be cheaper buying them.

Thanks,

I'll just have the jeweler replace the side stones with sapphires and sell the ring then and buy the .15's with the proceeds. :)

I think what you are doing is risky. How do you know if those stones in that ring are well cut? It is a much better plan to have all 4 small stones matched by the custom ring maker. That is how is it usually done with Victor Canera or Leon Mege. The customer provides the main stone (or can buy through them) and they provide the stones to go in the setting.

One more thing...replacing the diamonds with sapphires in order to resell that ring may cost you more than you can sell the ring for. You'd probably have to have them cut to fit the setting...definitely not worth doing!!!

Sell the remaining diamond and sell the empty setting for scrap to put toward the two .15 diamonds.

The diamonds are pretty nice quality and the ring was bought from an expensive jeweller locally, so i'm pretty confident in the quality.

Surely the jeweller could match the diamond colour say If vs and 'g' colour from the ring with other vs 'g' colour stones. the .15's will be quite small too??

The other option would be for him to get me another .33 and just have two steps of .33 instead of using smaller stones.

thought about this some more, I'll just do a bit of trade in with the jeweller for the .33 for the two smaller stones and sell the scrap gold.

That should be all the diamonds sorted.

That sounds like a better plan! I would go with the smaller stones on the end. I love that setting!
