Thank you so so so much Missy!!!! I survived!!! The doctor was lovely and worked out I needed a TB test too so he ordered that as well which means he saved me from another blood test as it was likely that the health department was also going to demand a TB test at some point.

Nurse who drew blood was brilliant. Barely a mark!

Now let’s hope they don’t find anything terrible in my blood!

Regarding “never getting pertussis”, I’ve been doing research on pertussis and the two vaccines (whole cell and acellular). Because Western countries typically use acellular pertussis vaccines, those of us who got acellular actually contract, carry and transmit pertussis without knowing it. Apparently whole cell vaccinated people don’t carry or transmit pertussis (unless immunity is waning I’m guessing).

So pertussis is resurging due to our vaccines and from scientific literature it’s likely been here all around us silently since they started using acellular vaccines in roughly 1990. Interestingly, this time frame also parallels the rise in autism and autoimmune diseases, which is why I’m studying this.

You never getting obvious pertussis could be due to an acellular vaccine, genetic factors or even gut microbiota which all keep symptomatic pertussis in check. The paper below proves our population is catching and developing antibodies to the real disease with no symptoms.

My son had pertussis as a 7 year old. The caregiver’s husband brought it home from somewhere. It was so terrible to watch him cough. Now at 33, that was so long ago. He also has autism and I swear the timing of his symptoms correlated almost exactly to his 2 year old shots. He stopped speaking and seemed to change very much. This is antidotal of course. I wish you luck in your research. It was so hard to have doctors take my concerns seriously. The testing showed the issues and he started special ed at two. The health providers didn’t follow through until he was seven. “He seems fine to me, kids mature at different rates”. Or the insinuation that I was an excitable type mother. The doctor he saw at seven was so awesome. We got him diagnosed at a University program due to this caring doctor. He also apologized that it took so long.
Thankful for our local health department that was way ahead of my doctors.
Not mad at anyone. I don’t know what happened, but would be so happy to know the reason.
