I finally settled on a stone ans setting but totally forgot what size ring she wears

. I told the jeweler that I could try to get one of her rings to get a size but she really only wears rings on her right hand. So my question is should I have them set the stone and wait for her to go with me to get it sized after the proposal or try to get one of her rings and have it sized off of that.

even if you get the size of her right hand ring, it won''t necessarily be the size of her left. it will be close, but you will probably have to have it resized again anyway.

I struggled with this one. I didn''t want to ask her what size she thought her finger was and I didn''t want to ask her parents and I didn''t want to have to use a temporary setting because I had my ring custom made.

What I did.................well she only wore one ring on her middle finger on her right hand. I managed to playfully take it off her one day, joking "oh your fingers are so small...............and put it on my finger and made very good note of how far I managed to get it on my finger. I then went to the jeweller and we tried on rings (from the "ring of ring sizes") until we found a ring that matched the one she is currently wearing. Then, we made some estimates that the middle finger is 1+ sizes larger than the ring finger. I think we estimated size 7 was the ring she was wearing.............so we chose a 5.75. Keeping in mind these were measurements made on the right hand (but she is left handed). In the end 5.75 fit perfectly.....if anything it could be a tad bit smaller but she loves the size. If she was right handed I think we would have had to go down to 5.5 for sure.

The moral of the story was that I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay nervous ahout the ring fitting. But it worked out fine, and she was really surprised.

Good Luck,

I would wait.

I put one of her rings on my pinky finger and it fit perfectly but when I tried to size my pinky it came out a 7 which I know is way too big. I'm pretty sure she said 5.5 but dont remember for sure.

Man after all the research on stones and settings you think I would have done a little more dectective work about her ring size

I dont know the current size of the ring but it will atleast fit on her pinky till we can get it resized.

I assume you made sure the ring could be sized up a few sizes if need be (by asking the jeweler)? Some settings can''t be sized that far (ie. channel set diamonds, etc).

It sounds like you had almost the same thing as me.

I put her ring (she wore it on the middle finger of her right hand) on my pinky, it turned out to be a size 7. I would have gone 5.5 for sure however her dominant hand is her left, so I went up to 5.75 (ring finger) instead to be sure. It went on perfectly, not to loose and a little room for the fingers to swell.

I was a nervous wreck hoping it would fit. But it did without problems, so it can be done. If everything has been a surprise up to this point I would keep things a surprise, otherwise I would get her input.

Cheers,

I wear a 7 on my right hand middle finger, but only a 4.5 on my left hand ring finger. That''s quite a large difference. Guessing isn''t a good idea, unless you don''t mind having it re-sized again after the proposal (and the ring can be re-sized easily).

Its a pave' band that is about half of the band so I dont think resizing we be that big of a problem but I only want to do it once. I think I'll wait to have it resized, I dont think she'll mind if I do that.

I wear a 6 on my right middle finger and a 4.5 on my left hand ring finger...so there is no way you can "guess". I think it is a good idea to wait. Good luck.
