Has anyone noticed that people around you tend to be fairly desensitized to real diamonds due to CZs?

One of my good friends literally has no idea how much diamonds cost. She would not know how to begin guessing what any random diamond costs. I think she figures that they are way, way cheaper than they really are because she wears only CZs. For example, very few people can afford 4 ctw diamond studs, but it''s very common to see girls wearing the CZ version.

Because CZs are so readily available, I notice that many girls in my group have absolutely no clue how much real diamonds cost, and either think they are wildly inexpensive, or wildly expensive... these include engaged girls, who mostly did no research themselves and received rings from fiances by surprise.

I generally assume that when I see big diamond studs, they''re CZs, simply because that''s been my experience. And when I get my coveted WF huggie earrings, people will probably think I''m wearing CZs! While friends and strangers will notice and oooh-and-ahhh over my engagement ring because it''s special in an emotional way, I doubt many I know would ooh-and-ahh over earrings.

I rarely assume any diamonds someone is wearing, except rings, are real -- unless I know that person well (i.e. my dear friend who has a gorgeous Harry Winston canary diamond engagement ring and would not be caught dead in anything fake). Even my friends who got large and pricey engagement rings in the 2+ carat range have no other real diamond jewelry because CZs seem to do the job for them (as they did for me, until Price Scope!).
