There are two stones from different vendors that I would like to inspect in person.

I just may have to get both stones shipped in to an appraiser near by. Will the appraiser charge me extra to look @ two stones?

What if I don''t want them both "fully" appraised, but I just want their opinion. Is this unwise???

Could i have it shipped to a jeweler that has a gemologist? Is that the same thing? Couldn''t they just as well help w/giving opinion on stones?

I have a jeweler that I would like to build raport with. Possibly buy setting from, just not loose diamond. obviously for $$ reasons. What is proper ettiquete?

Please advise....

If both stones are available from the B&M store search then ask your locaal person to caall them in and work with them by all means.

An appraiser must charge you more for 2 stones - but they could quiclkly say # 2 is better than #1 and then only do a full report on #2.

We often inspect two, three or four stones in order to only fully appraise one and to help with the selectiuon process. We don''t charge full fees for such an inspection. Somethimes the process is rapid and very inexpensive, but somethimes there is so little difference that the inspection becomes much deeper in order to differentiate the possible choices. As the time grows, the fee increases, but unless we produce full reports on all the stones, we always charge partial fees for the others.

I think you''ll find nearly every appraiser will handle this in a similar manner. There may be some very ethical and complete appraisers who only will do complete reports and make no exceptions. I applaud their integrity, but don''t believe it is necessary to get so carried away under most circumstances. If an appraiser feels the need to do a complete job, you must trust their judgment if you trust them to do your work. I have found that generally we can assist people in their selection process before we go deeply into every stone provided when only one is to be selected.

For bracelets and other items using multiple diamonds we often are given large lots of stones to select the exact ones to be used which meet the consumer''s criteria. We don''t charge full fees for all of those stones as they are a group effort.....Hope this helps you.
