Hi,

I would like to know for Gemex/brilliancescope results, is that an absolute scale?

For example, if two diamonds both receive the max rating for all White, color Scintillation, can i expect they both should exhibit around the same level of performance?

Also, does that max rating mean no other stone can be brighter than this stone? Or it means it''s a max for this weight or this cut or this proportion?

I want to get a really bright diamond that shines. Is this a good enough reference that I go for a diamond that max out is all 3 category in the Gemex report?

Thanks.

in general, yes, you can expect basically the same level of performance but it might be different performance.
for example, imagine you have two pieces of a mirror and one is bigger than the other. you take both outside and flash them in the sunlight and ask someone to look at the flashes and tell you the differences. the results will be basically the same: flashes of light. one may flash longer and the other may have shorter flashes but they both basically perform the same.

Also, does that max rating mean no other stone can be brighter than this stone? Or it means it''s a max for this weight or this cut or this proportion?
no. it means that the stone tested at that time, met the ''max'' measurement for gemex machine.
two things to keep in mind:
1. ''max'' is not a set standard
2. the repeatability of the results are not 100%

i guess it''s a good enough reference

how do you like your baked potatoes? (this is so not going to work as a great example if you don''t like baked potatoes!)
i like mine with butter, sour cream and pepper. in that order. lots of butter, a little less sour cream and some pepper. if i put the same amount of all of those ingredients together on my baked potato, i wouldn''t think it tasted that great. no matter what the proportions are. it would be one big glob of ''hmmmm''

the same really is true with diamonds. if you have max (whatever that is!) everything, you might be getting some of everything but it might not really be able to showcase the best of anything.

of course, let''s not forget what gemex is really about anyway!

bschai,

What will tell you if it''s a great diamond is the IS image, and there''s no argument there. (whereas there is with the Gemex)

Just get a super IS with good numbers and you''re going to get a beautiful diamond!
