Hi all, I’m at a gem show in Springfield, MA. Worth buying? I see a gem dealer here mentioned here. John Garsow from California. I believe someone here has bought from him before? @marymm Thanks.

@Dmndsr4evr11 -- yes I did buy a piece of Chivor Mine Emerald rough from John Garsow some years back -- I found him reputable and knowledgeable, with reasonably priced pieces ---FWIW I would buy from him again and I would recommend him as a vendor.

Fyi, if you're at a Gem Show, before you make any purchase, doublecheck the vendor's return policy -- sometimes vendors have a different return policy for Gem Shows as compared to online orders -- I have no idea whether this is the case for John Garsow.

Have fun at the Gem Show!

Thanks, @marymm!

I didn’t see a photo or link in your post so I read it as asking whether you should buy the entire gem show. Yes. Yes you should. Free samples to your friends on PS.

I agree I've had my earrings 3 weeks now and I need a new piece of jewelry to entertain me

@marymm - this is the stone my young daughter is interested in. 2.97 ct Tourmaline priced at $450 plus tax. I’m clueless when it comes to CS. So I have no idea if this is fairly priced.

Its very pale in color (if it was more saturated, the price would be more); it is difficult to see the clarity (Tourmaline commonly is quite clean); I think for just shy of 3 carats and a decent cut, assuming it is clean and your daughter is seeking this very light color, the price is certainly not a deal but could be viewed as fairly reasonable at $450 + tax ...

Here's some comparables from AJS Gems - https://www.ajsgem.com/pink-tourmal...rice&sort_order=DESC&items_per_page=45&page=1

This radiant-cut Tourmaline has slightly more color, and larger carat weight at 3.69ct, priced at $585

Thanks, @marymm. She wants the lighter color almost looking like a morganite. Maybe she should just look into morganite. Not many morganites at the show and she likes the emerald cut. The stone looks eye clean. She should have taken a photo of it without the transparent cover which may be causing it to look very included. She ended up getting a cheaper light yellow zircon.

I really like Morganite too, I have a faceted stone awaiting setting, and two Morganite cabochon rings from etsy vendor Janish Jewels (one is a rose-cut oval cab and the other a high dome round cabochon).

Etsy vendor One Garnet Girl has some lovely very pale Morganite rings, none are step-cuts though.

If she likes the AJS step-cut Morganite I posted, they're currently running a 15% sale on purchases via credit card ... ;)

Oh I think it’s a tourmaline you posted. I’ll check their morganite. Will also check the etsy vendor you’re recommending. Thanks, @marymm.

^ you're right - that's a Tourmaline - lol - sometimes multitasking is a no-win situation!

In any case, Tourmaline or Morganite, thanks for your help, @marymm.
