This question pertains to the Blue Nile sites “Signature” series diamonds - specifically the GCAL certificate Photomicrograph photos.

1. Can you compare these photos to say a Hearts & arrows scope picture? There seems to be some similarities in the arrows (top) but the hearts (pavilion shot) are not all that great.

2. They make no reference to H&A, so would any comparison to such be unfair to BL or should an Ideal cut diamond exhibit a highly defined image of H&A’s? without using a H&A scope in a photomicrograph photo?

Ccv90, welcome to the forum

I''m afraid you cannot use those pictures to evaluate H&A symmetry. Not all ideal cut diamonds has H&A symmetry (see this recent thread)

When couple of years ago I asked a person from Blue Nile about H&A, he said that they choose not to promote H&A and a diamond is a diamond.

So can I conclude that a RB stone not having ideal cut porportions, but showing a decent H&A pattern, would be better than avg. in terms of light return if the stone is a little deep with a small but within spec table?

H&A describes the symmetry, which can improve the look of the diamond. The BN diamond you linked above has ideal proportion. I don''t think you should worry.
