Not sure if this question has been asked before but why do most people prefer stones that get between 1-2 on the HCA?

And to follow-up I plugged in the numbers for a stone I was interested in and it got .07 doesn''t that mean it is a really good stone for performance or would it be disappointing to my eye? Hope that makes sense.

Thanks!

Sorry but bump

The answer is

it depends

HCA scores can come with a wide variety of proportions.
also I think you mean 0.7?

Thanks!
Yes, I did mean .7
Any chance you can elaborate on it depends?
This stone has an AGS cert as well and it is graded as ideal.

Hi btrflygrl,

I also had soooo many questions about the HCA also.

Have you tried doing a search?

I think it''s meant to weed out poor performers in the vitual inventory - is that right Garry?

However, there are others here that have challenged and elaborated on the usage of the HCA including Garry himself!

Good Luck.

How useful the HCA, AGS and GIA cut grades depends on what other information you have.
The more imformation you have the less important they are.
For example Garry will tell you that a great looking IS image trumps the HCA in most cases.
