Gabriel & Co setting - prong style question

Hi guys,

I was looking through a previous thread (i.e., https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-me-find-a-setting.169770/) because I have very similar taste and am looking for different settings similar to the Scott Kay Noblesse identified in that post. Long story short, I liked a couple of the Gabriel & Co settings recommended, as well as some others on their Web site that are similar.

The one that caught my eye (from the previous thread) was http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER7477W44JJ . However, the picture of the prongs on the head is sort of confusing me. It seems like the two prongs are connected in the middle somehow, correct? Like a basket-style head? I can't tell if I'm just having trouble making it out based on the photograph, as I haven't been able to find any other pictures of the same setting. Browsing their site, I noticed other settings with a similar basket-style (e.g., http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER7450W44JJ) (from the side view). Am I just seeing a weird reflection (I doubt it, as others are clearly V shapes with nothing in the middle of the prongs)?

I think I prefer the prongs without that basket (i.e., that make just the v shape around the main diamond e.g., http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER7296W44JJ), mainly because I wouldn't want to block more of the stone than I have to. So question... if I'm not seeing a weird reflection - does a connection like that between the prongs bother anyone else or, opposite, is preferred (and if so, why... just because of style preferences - or are there practical preferences on what prong styles are best)? Finally, if I liked everything about that ring except for the prongs (assuming there is a basket between them) would it be possible to have that customized (i.e, removed to just be a regular 4 prong, with the v shape), and if so... how much might that cost?

Sorry for all of the questions --- I searched for posts with Gabriel & Co, but couldn't find any more with this specific setting. Although I saw a thread that said baskets shouldn't affect the brilliance of good stones, I'm wondering if the prongs/basket on this ring are a bit thick. I've learned so much already from browsing these forums - any advice is appreciated! :)

It looks like there is a bar that connects the prongs and has 2 diamonds in it to me. Is that what you are asking?

Yes, they'll customize it. I imagine for a few hundred (if there are no extra diamonds involved), but any of the Gabriel & Co carrying PS vendors can get a quote.

Yep, thanks for the confirmation! lol I spent so long looking at tons of settings close up on Gabriel & Co that I started second guessing what I was seeing (though I think the '2 diamonds' are a reflection of the diamonds on the band).

Thanks webdiva. I'm still learning a lot (even just in basic terminology) and had read threads that talked about integrated vs non-integrated baskets/prongs etc. being more or less expensive to customize... and honestly had no idea what this one would be (doable or not). I also just had the general impression that the basket/prongs just looks really thick... so it's great to hear it's potentially doable once I find a vendor (hoping to have bf do the stone and setting through a PS vendor when the time comes).

I would advise to try to see that ring in person. Contact Gabriel & Co and see if they have a vendor in your area and can ship a sample ring. The pictures make the rings look so bulky and thick but they are not in person. You may not want to customize at all when you see it! :)
