Hi guys,
I was looking through a previous thread (i.e., https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-me-find-a-setting.169770/) because I have very similar taste and am looking for different settings similar to the Scott Kay Noblesse identified in that post. Long story short, I liked a couple of the Gabriel & Co settings recommended, as well as some others on their Web site that are similar.
The one that caught my eye (from the previous thread) was http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER7477W44JJ . However, the picture of the prongs on the head is sort of confusing me. It seems like the two prongs are connected in the middle somehow, correct? Like a basket-style head? I can't tell if I'm just having trouble making it out based on the photograph, as I haven't been able to find any other pictures of the same setting. Browsing their site, I noticed other settings with a similar basket-style (e.g., http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER7450W44JJ) (from the side view). Am I just seeing a weird reflection (I doubt it, as others are clearly V shapes with nothing in the middle of the prongs)?
I think I prefer the prongs without that basket (i.e., that make just the v shape around the main diamond e.g., http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER7296W44JJ), mainly because I wouldn't want to block more of the stone than I have to. So question... if I'm not seeing a weird reflection - does a connection like that between the prongs bother anyone else or, opposite, is preferred (and if so, why... just because of style preferences - or are there practical preferences on what prong styles are best)? Finally, if I liked everything about that ring except for the prongs (assuming there is a basket between them) would it be possible to have that customized (i.e, removed to just be a regular 4 prong, with the v shape), and if so... how much might that cost?
Sorry for all of the questions --- I searched for posts with Gabriel & Co, but couldn't find any more with this specific setting. Although I saw a thread that said baskets shouldn't affect the brilliance of good stones, I'm wondering if the prongs/basket on this ring are a bit thick. I've learned so much already from browsing these forums - any advice is appreciated!
