Anyone want to help me on this one...

Would you prefer a G VS2 or F SI1 diamond?

I would have to go with G VS2, I suppose, because you know that there is no way you will ever seen an inclusion with a VS2, but you most likely will never see one with an SI1 stone either. G and F are so close to each other that with a well cut stone, you''ll never see a difference. So with the same cut, size and price, I guess I''d pick G VS2.

It would depend on the cut, but assuming each were equally well cut, then I would probably shoot for the F SI if verified eyeclean to my standards. It is down to personal preference, also either colour grade should face up very white.

I''d go for the F SI1 if it''s eye clean.

Assuming the stone is well-cut and the SI is eye clean, I would go for the H/SI. This is my sweet spot and my ring has an H/SI in it. I think it looks perfectly white and I saved a lot of money going a little lower.

What size is the stone? If it's under a carat, I would go for the H if you're watching your budget. I've seen very well cut stones in H and they look white to me.

ETA: Sorry! I posted in the wrong thread! LOL. Please disregard the above.

I'd go for the F SI1. Color you can see but if it's eye clean, you won't be able to see the inclusions.

As long as both stones were eyeclean, I''d really have no preference - either would be lovely as long as they are well-cut stones.

lol wait, is the SI1 an H, or an F?

I''m partial to G, H, and I colors.

I would go for G VS2. I''m one of those freaks that can see many SI inclusions and it would bug me. G is still very white and a great respectable color :)

If the SI1 was 100% totally and neurotically eyeclean I would go for the F. But if there was any chance I could see the inclusions then I would go for the G. I am extremely picky with stuff like that, once I found a visible inclusion it would keep getting bigger and bigger in my eyes until it was like a I3 or something and I couldn''t handle that. Yep, I know I have issues, but at least I am honest right?!

It depends on the specifics and whether the viewer is more sensitive to colour or to clarity. With SI1 its not so much the grade but the nature and position of the inclusions that makes all the difference. I have seen some SI1 diamonds which I preferred to VS2 diamonds. For example: an SI1 with a white inclusion (e.g. a crystal or cloud) at the side or the back is preferable to a VS2 with a smaller but black/dark inclusion in the centre which is reflected all around the table. If all things were equal then personally I prefer better colour to clarity but beauty as they say is in the eye of the beholder.

LOL! Honey, you sound like my husband . . . he can spot a white pinpoint at 50 paces!!!

I''m more of a color person, myself. I would go with the F/SI1. It''s probably eye clean (unless you''re Honey or my husband), and F is going to be VERY white!!!

If it''s eye clean, the F SI1, thank you.

Did I mention that I kept turning down killer cut E colour stones (with perfect numbers I may add) until I found my D!! I just would have thought it looked different! Just be glad you don''t have to live with me!!

LOL! Now the color thing I can totally relate to! DH thinks I''m nuts because I can tell when two diamonds have different color grades . . . they all just look white to him. MEN!!!

I guess it depends on the stone most of all but probably G VS2
