My new ering is G, VS1 in a platinum Etoile setting. I didn''t think to ask to look at an F colour when we chose the ring as the price had already reached the limit with the G (and we wanted to buy something in stock immediately as it was the last day of our holiday in the US). Now I''m wonderring, do you think there would be much (any?) difference between the F and G colour in this setting and size (0.54 carats, platinum)? It looks very white to me, but I''m not directly comparing it to an F!

That's a beautiful ring. I suppose if you love it and are happy with it you shouldn't really think too hard about the difference between F and G.

Why? Because on a platinum setting I doubt most people would be able to tell the difference at all face-up just by looking at it. And even if side-by-side.

Colour is usually judged faced down on a white background and and F and G is fairly subtle (just one grade). Looking face-up, especially if you chose an ideal cut diamond with excellent light return it would be difficult to differentiate the colour between even an 'E' and a 'G'. Perhaps a trained eye could tell the difference, I doubt many people could.

Assuming the diamond is GIA or AGS graded, I doubt that many people could tell the difference between these colour grades even with direct comparison, so don''t worry too much!

very slim chance that you could tell the difference. there is a reason appriasers will only guarantee their color grading to be within 2 color grades when appraising a mounted stone.

enjoy your ring!

Ditto - I don''t believe you''d perceive a difference.

Thanks very much for your replies, I was experiencing a touch of buyer''s remorse (even though I love my love my ring I was wondering if I should''ve gotten a colourless diamond) and you''ve really helped to put my mind at ease.

I wouldn''t stress over it anymore! You''d be very hard pressed to tell the difference.

It would be incredibly difficult to tell the difference between the two, enjoy your stone and the money you saved!! In my avatar the center is an H and the rest are I''s and I can''t tell the difference no matter how hard I try.

I would not worry about it at all. I would not hesitate to have a G stone.

I have a G in a pendant and it is very white looking indeed. I also have a D and and E (in rings) and once set in the pendant the G color looks very comparable.

Very pretty ring you have!

Is that a Tiffany ring? Or if not, who graded the stone? I wouldn''t worry about a Tiffany or GIA or AGS graded G color at all. I would worry if it was graded anywhere else.

Thanks everyone, this is definitely helping me.

Yes, it''s a Tiffany ring - we got it in New York after my boyfriend proposed and it was kind of an excited rush as it was our last day there, so now in retrospect I wish we had spent more time looking at the different colours even though I''m pretty sure we would''ve come to the same conclusion!

Well your ring is just gorgeous!!! And G color is really, really nice! Tiffany carries as low as I color, so yours is great!

I wouldn''t worry about it. It''d be extremely hard to tell a difference. You ring is gorgeous! Enjoy wearing it.

I have an F. I also at the same time bought a cushion diamond for my mom with pretty much the same cut specs as my diamond. Hers is an H. I could not tell the difference for the life of me, although I did only compare them after they were set. Made me think I should have looked harder for an H for me!

Welcome to the thrilling, topsy-turvy world of buyer''s remorse. Hopefully your stay will be short!

What you''re going through is TOTALLY NORMAL ... if it wasn''t this thing "f vs g" BELIEVE ME it would be something else. It''s just the nature of big purchases.

Luckily what you''ve chosen to focus on is pretty easily dispelled by the savvy Pscopers!

ENJOY that gorgeous ring & your new engagement! ASAP!

You''re right, I question every big decision I make, it''s terrible! Your responses are certainly helping me though - I love the phrase ''mind clean'', that''s exactly what it''s about for me!

I too had the ''mind clean'' thing. I had a g and a f. I really coudn''t tell a difference between them and I am pretty color sensitive. I think G''s are great. I think most people couldn''t tell the difference between g''s and f''s, unless they have eagle eyes.
