Does anyone give funny gifts along with their regular ones?

DH and I usually exchange one gift that is something that we laughed at during the year, but his family always thinks it is weird. They only give gifts that are on your Christmas list... no personal thought required.

This year, I''m putting coupons for "5 Free Hugs" in DH''s stocking. If any of you watch the new show Modern Family , the wife is a horrible gift giver, and for their anniversary, she gave her husband coupons for 5 Free Hugs. DH thought it was the most hillarious thing ever.

I get my husband Christmas Undies. (Undershirt, socks or actual underwear.) I vary the TYPE of christmas undies every year to keep him guessing - and put it in his stocking.

The joke came from one time back in the day when we were talking about the worst presents we received as kids. Underwear was always the worst. But I guess in his house it was tradition that not only w/ your clothes you got socks and underwear.

So we keep it alive.

My husband isn''t as creative as I am - but he tries. Though his gifts in and of itself can really suck.

Our first christmas together he got me a sonic care toothbrush. He thought since i''m soo freaking anal about my teeth and gums I''d LOOOVE IT... and when my mom heard about it- she''s like that''s PERFECT! I''m like - mom - its a toothbrush. So a couple years in a row he put a really cheap toothbrush in my stocking - with a fun handle like sponge bob or a pretty princess. I''ve used them either on my dog''s teeth, or for cleaning - depending on which one needs to be rotated out at the time.

Hahaha--5 free hugs. I''ve only seen one episode of Modern Family and that was the one I saw! Are you also getting your DH a live, private performance from Spandeau Ballet? LOL

My brother and SIL love to give me funny gifts. Last year I got a bobble head Pirates of the Caribbean figure. The significance of the gift was lost on me, and really it wasn''t all that funny, but they thought it was.

Somewhere along the way, my niece and I started giving each other impossible to unwrap presents. Last year I used an entire role of duct tape on hers, I wonder what I''ll do this year :)

Haha! That''s a fun idea.

My father hates glitter. My whole family was cracking up last year watching him open his gift from my aunt. She gave him some weird pinecone decoration thingie that was covered in red glitter...the glitter was getting all over the carpet and he was getting SO MAD. The rest of us thought it was the funniest thing ever. I''ll have to make sure to put extra glitter in his package this year.

Every year we do a white elephant gift exchange at work. Without boring you with all the details, the premise of the game is that you have to give something from your house that you do not want anymore, wrap it up nicely, sit back and watch.

My team has been really stuck up and usually spends money on getting nice gifts. My coworker and I are the only ones that actually play the game and we give the absolute worst gifts. One year he gave two frames with a picture of himself giving the thumbs up and another of him pointing to an alpaca. I almost peed on myself. I gave left over paint rolls. Today is our exchange and because he and I are really close he told me what his gift is: it''s him singing Single Ladies on a DVD. He has the room set up so that we can play it.

I.cannot.wait.

OMG. MUST YOUTUBE WHEN DONE.

Oh.My.Gosh! These are Great!

Fiery- I would PAY MONEY to see your fellow employer open that gift! Is he wearing the black leotard?!?!?

Tlh- Sonicare toothbrush? Nice! It's so cute that he still gives you one as a joke now!
My husband's brother asked DH what he should get me for Christmas, and since I love bread & butter, DH suggested a "Butter's from Around the World" platter.

The thought is there, and I love that he actually thought of something based on my interests, but really? Butters from around the world?

Monarch- I can just imagine them cracking up when you were opening it, and you having no idea why it is funny... Awkward! And I totally forgot about the ending of the show... I may add the CD now!!!

Smurfy- Duct tape?!? We would no longer be exchanging gifts, lol!

Try plastic cable ties. I've used the duct tape routine, too. My brother will be getting a gift where the "ribbon" and is industrial plastic cable ties and the "bow" is the clipped ends of the ties sticking up. (They make cable ties up to 3 feet long!) Cutting through those will involve hand tools, not scissors or a knife.

RE: the thread topic. I wouldn't dream of giving a funny/sarcastic gift

. One year my dad got a small lightweight gift, so it was taped to some newspaper that appeared to be packing material for a large box. When he pulled out all the paper (gift attached), all that was at the bottom of the box was a wallet sized pic of yours truly. It took him quite a while to find the actual gift.

The wife's family has a tradition of giving toilet paper in memory of an aunt that used to give that in all seriousness as a practical gift. It has now become a running joke with her family. The adults on her side each bring a grab bag gift, instead of buying for everyone. You know a roll of tp will be in at least one package.

I am all for joke gifts. FIL birthday was the 13th and when we were out shopping we saw footie pajamas. They were blue with rockets on them and they were made out of the right stuff so it totally reminded us of childhood. The best part was that they were glow in the dark. We had to get them. We knew there was no way they would fit. We all got a good laugh and apparently they are going to be regifted to my BIL for Christmas. I know that DH will end up getting them back for some gift giving occasion. I wonder how many years they will be gifted around.

OMG - that is sooo funny! Who knows, could be the best gift ever since you''re preggo! ha! But yeah, I always wonder about those sort of gifts too!

I love funny gifts! A couple of years ago, DH gave his dad a DVD of the "Grinch" movie and everyone thought it was hilarious because he can be quite the grinch himself... I sat in the corner, almost crying from trying not to laugh. He was not amused. Oh well.

Last year, my siblings and I had a "useless gift" competition for Father''s Day, and we had to find him to most useless gift we could find. My brother got him a binary clock, my sister a couple of those blocks with moving stick-figure characters in them and I got him the 20-questions electronic guizmo. We had so much fun looking for those things!

I usually give my sister goofy gifts. I gave her a 6-foot cardboard cutout of Buddy the Elf a couple years ago, a giant poster from the 40-Year-Old Virgin one year (I got the local movie theatre to give it to me when they were done with it.) Another year it was a Dwight bobblehead from The Office.

This year I''m making a sock weasel (instead of a sock monkey) for her, outfitted in a tallis, kippah, and tefillin. I call her The Weasel, and she''s a rabbinical student, so I think that''s both hilarious and appropriate.

We just gave my sister''s fiance a guidebook for L.A. My sister will be studying there for five years, and she and the fiance are still working out whether he''ll be moving there to be with her, so I thought a little guidebook might be useful. You know, just in case.

DH gave me a card with a $20 bill in it for the first birthday of mine that we celebrated together. He thought it was hilarious, I did not.

Kinda OT, but not really... does anyone know where I can get the "SOMETHING" and "NOTHING" words that were used in the Fizbo episode of Modern Family a few weeks ago?!?!? My BF and I cracked up when we watched that episode together. And that would be the perfect funny gift to get him!!!

Try hulu or youtube and watch the episode. I don''t know exactly what you are talking about, but I remember the Fizbo episode. If you can hang in there I have it at home recorded on the DVR and I will watch it and tell you.

Fiery- How did the exchange go?!?!

Funny gifts are the best! Last year DH and I got a yodeling pickle from a friend, and my sister got us a poster about sausage from 1940-something, and the DVD "When Animals Attack". It''s still fully wrapped...
14.gif
We''ll be giving her a similar ridiculous poster this year. We found a singing pickle for the friend.

We''ve given our zombie loving BIL the book Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and various zombie action figures.

I gave DH an official SNL D*ck in a Box for his birthday once.

SIL owns this book (and actually read it!) and we crack jokes about it allll the time. I''m pretty sure I''ll be receiving it for a birthday at some point.

I found them!!! http://www.ronjo.com/magic/70629601019.html

I have to watch myself because sometimes I will spend as much on a joke gift as I will on the real thing. I really value humor, though, so it is worth it!

Fiery, we are still waiting to hear about how your exchange went!

Haven, one of my best friend''s had a guy she was dating in college give her $20 for Valentine''s once. He did not intend it as a joke, though. Needless to say, the relationship did not last through that winter.
