Oooooh, nice, Lynn!!! I looooooove it!!! I''m really warming to the idea of going with 5''s instead of 3''s...and I''ve kinda decided that if I''m gonna go bigger I might as well go to 5''s because there won''t be much difference with 4''s, ya know?

I''d just get whatever feels more comfortable to wear, and what you like the look of better when you go to try rings on.

Re wearing both rings at work: I''m an anesthesia resident, and I wear my rings every day. It''s a pick-me-up to be able to look at something sparkly (just have a plain band for my wedding ring) in the middle of the night when I''m grumpy on call. My rings work fine under gloves, I clean them enough to keep things looking good, and I haven''t lost anything yet. Before I smartened up, I think I left them in a patient''s room once after doing an epidural, but remembered soon after and ran back for them. Now I keep them safe by pinning a safety pin to my scrubs, and whenever I need to scrub up for a spinal or epidural, I stick my rings on the pin. There''s enough fabric thickness on the shirt pocket to hold the pin securely, and I''ve never forgotten to put them back on afterwards yet. I know some nurses swear by pinning the safety pin through to their bra strap, so that there''s absoluetly NO risk of forgetting the jewellery and sending them back to the laundry when they take off their scrubs. Otherwise, I sometimes keep my scrubs in my locker for one extra day, so that if I forget to check the pockets or the safety pin, everything would be still safe in my locker if I didn''t remember till I got home later on.

Have fun in your clinical rotations!
Kate

Wow, great pics, Logan!!! Thank you!!! Your ring is gorgeous....really makes me want do to the full eternity with 5 pointers!

Thanks DrK! It''s refreshing to hear someone in the medical field talk about actually wearing their jewelry at work! The safety pin is a great idea, and I like the idea of going through the bra strap so you can''t take off your shirt without remembering the rings! Thanks so much for the tips. I''m super excited...starting my clinicals in less than a week!

And I''m super jealous... you''re finished with boards and classes, and here I still have 6 more months!

hehe, ok on topic though- the eternity vs. half or 3/4 is something I''ve been thinking about as well. My e-ring is also half eternity, and I''m just not sure what to do. I think I would prefer to have the stones go all the way around, but I''d feel terrible if my ring size changes in a few years and then my original wedding band could never be worn again. decisions, decisions... I guess I still have a while to think about this one anyway! And lots of time to try on rings

I read every answer in this thread. It seems pretty well balanced as there are pros and cons to either choice. I view 1/2 or 3/4 bands as more practical and full eternity bands as more luxurious.
You can size nearly any eternity band up or down, but some have bulit in limitations. Channel set rings are far more difficult to size invisibly than any other style. You''ll see lines and shadows even in a good resize job on a channel ring.

Bead set rings don''t take kindly to being made smaller. They generally can be sized larger with some hassle, but it all works out okay most of the time. Shared prong style can be sized up easier than down, and 4 prong per stone rings go up and down the best, but may not look the best of all possible designs.

If you go from a 5.5 to a 7.5, you may have a problem that is greater than going from 5.5 to 6.5. It makes sense that the more you open the ring, the more stones tend to shift. Diamonds which touch eachother in a size 5.5 ring will want to overlap eachother if the ring is made larger. That''s simple geometry and a big problem. If you purchase a ring where the diamonds do not touch, then making it larger later will be way less of a problem. Just look with a loupe and see if the diamonds touch side to side, girdle to girdle, when new. This will be a problem later on if re-sizing comes into play.

I suggest a 1/2 wedding ring which, after the wedding, gets soldered to the center ring. This prevents rotation and wear on both rings. For the first anniversay, buy the eternity ring as a stand alone accessory for times where a big rock and wedding ring combo are not as useful, such as work, or possibly travel situations. Then you have all the bases covered.

Oh yes...I had my rings sized up 1/4 size by just ''stretching'' them...so it is a possibility if you don''t gain a ton of weight I guess....I also would not have my rings resized just during a pregnancy or something..and I don''t plan to gain 50 lbs hopefully, so it will be a moot point (keeping fingers crossed and putting AWAY the mashed potatoes!!)

This is an interesting idea that I hadn''t thought of...I do plan on eventually having a second eternity or half-eternity to wear with my wedding band and e-ring or alone...I like the look of a band below and a band above the e-ring!

Which brings up a whole ''nother question...to solder, or not to solder? I had always thought I didn''t want to, just for flexibility''s sake...anyone have opinions one way or another, or points I might not have thought of?

And Mara, I certainly hope that my ring size doesn''t change much with pregnancy...no mashed potatoes for me either! haha.

I will be doing the band 4-prong, whether it''s half or full eternity, so I''ve learned that that is good from a sizing perspective...thanks, David!

Hey HOUmedgal,

I vote for eternity. I have an eternity band, and honestly, I LOVE IT! It feels very decadent for some reason...maybe there is something to be said for diamonds where you can''t see them. Actually I would have gotten full eternity for my e-ring except that Leon''s setting was expensive, so I didn''t want to take the chance of of finger changing sizes and not being able to use in.

In any case, at my school, they throw us into a clinical setting right away from day one, where we learn how to do physical exams, and I wear my eternity band all the time. It''s super practical, fits under the gloves, and doesn''t get into the way when I''m working on patients. It''s also discreet, and appropriate (and yes I do look at my hand palm up to see the diamonds that go all around

. So those hidden diamonds are for me

Ally, decadent is a great word...that kinda what I think when I think about going full instead of half. :)

I''ve contacted the guy who made my e-ring (Michael E.) for preliminary planning/pricing information...so we''ll see!!!

I now can contribute to this kind of discussion since I got my 3/4 eternity rings set on Christmas Day. I love the 3/4 eternity look...When money is a bit more plentiful, I might even at a teeny bit more diamonds, but I will leave a small gap for sizing reasons as advised by my jeweler.

Not to get off topic, but as far as finger sizes changes during/after pregnancy....I only know of one woman personally whose finger is exactly the same size as the was before she became pregnant. My finger size was technically the same size before I became pregnant, but my rings fit a little differently, so I decided to have them sized up 1/2 size. Since your joints and ligaments loosen up w/ pregnancy and childbirth, they don''t always go back to exactly the way they were. Good reason I waited until after I was pregnant to get my eternity band.

Hey Deanna, when are we going to see pictures of your new set?!

I was just struggling with this dilemma myself although my situation is slightly different. Since I have a halo e-ring and didn't give a thought to the wedding band while it was being made, there is absolutely NO WAY I can wear another ring with my e-ring. So, I plan to move my e-ring to my right hand (it will have to be sized up though) and I have been considering the differences between full and half eternity as a stand alone ring on my left hand. I went to my jeweler and he felt that since the ring would be alone on the hand, we should go all out and do five 20-pointers. While I loved the impact of the ring, it truly was impressive on my size 4 finger, I just couldn't get past the fact that the diamonds didn't go all the way around. I had my heart set on a full eternity and although it really looked great with the 5 large stones, I want what I want. So I'm going with a shared prong eternity band with 10-pointers--I will bombard everyone with photos once it's ready! Anyway, you really do need to go and play around with the rings and see how you feel about both styles and what looks best. It's not an easy decision but once you see all the choices with your own eyes on your own hand, you'll know what "feels" right to you. Good luck and keep us posted!!

ETA as oldminer stated, I was told you can size an eternity ring after the fact as long as it's not like 2 sizes. I do plan on having children so that was a consideration but my jeweler said not to worry if you have to go up a size.

Eternity with 10 pointers????

YUMMMM!!!!!

I will be looking forward to the picture bombardment!
