I finally won the war.

I put a tiny bit of Ivory Liquid into a glass of Chardonnay.
They crawl down the side of the glass for a sip and the soap makes them lose their grip. - Or maybe they get drunk.

I'd better be careful to not drink this tonight when I'm enjoying MY glass of Chardonnay.

Yep, they're drunk.
Look at those bloodshot eyes.

It works with apple cider vinegar too.

And yuck on the pictures.

holy crap! what an amazing device to get rid of those pesky flies! we were using lemon and soy sauce and it didn''t work nearly as well as this. great idea and congrats on getting rid of them, i hate fruit fly season :)

I''ll have to save this wine glass for when my MIL comes over.

yup heard that works, and vinegar, etc.

that picture is nasty though...all those red eyes...eek.

Someone here also recommended leaving a open bottle of red wine (that you are no longer drinking) around. They get in but can''t get out.

And that''s really disgusting!!

gross!! but hey whatever works right!

If you don''t want to waste perfectly good wine...

Drink the bottle yourself. There will always be a little splash left in the bottom of the bottle. Wipe the outside of the bottle off and leave it out overnight for the fruitflies. They''ll get in, drink a bit of wine, and not be able to find their way out.

They do prefer some wines over others. Merlot is usually a big hit. Some moscatos. They loved the cab/merlot we had the other day.

In order for this to work, you do have to rinse out your glass so they can''t get it from there. No dirty dishes left out helps too. That way there is no distraction from the wine bottle.

Oh, it's still good; it won't go to waste.

I'm not much of a wine connoisseur.

re: pictures --> looks like a project i had to do in my ap biology class in high school. the worst part was they weren''t passed out drunk like these guys. i had to carry around a clear plastic tube around for months - they were REPRODUCING so everyday like a hundred more would show up. definitely gross.

Oh ick! We put small dishes of beer out for the slugs in my hostas. It grosses me out but it works.

OMG hilarious!!

That pic is beyond revolting, btw...

Ewwww Kenny!

A new guy just landed.

NO! NOOOOOOOOO!
GO BACK! Little guy.
Before it's too late - GO BACK!

OMG that is great!! I am definitely going to try this! I swear every time I have a glass of wine, there is one batty fruit fly attacking me all night! No idea where it comes from, but it only comes out for wine, so I think it''s fitting it will hopefully find its demise in a wine glass!

Is there anything special about Ivory dish soap in particular? I think I have Dawn. Will that also work?

Ugh! Fruit flies must be bad this year, I have heard LOTS of complaints about them! We had them too...nasty little buggers!

Nice. They''re drunk but clean

Dawn only works early in the morning.
