It is alittle fat, should be more 1 to 1 ratio. Heart shapes don't move to good. As long as it is the same stone that is on the cert, you are alright. But I would still try to get some more off of it.

I don't think there are any real standards when it comes to hearts, so I'll defer to Ed's professional opinion.

Ed, do heart shapes show color more readily than a round brilliant? If so, Trinity, you may want to be sure that you could be comfortable with a slightly warm looking stone.




Other than that...don't know a thing about heart shaped stones!

I like hearts, even thought they are not very hot at the moment. Yes, they do show color more readily than round brilliants, so I would make sure it faces up white and not yellowish. Numbers are not that useful with hearts (and fancy shapes in general), bt this one sounds promising: nice table and crown % and a nice, not too thick girdle. Is the vendor able to provide you with pictures?

Not sure you could get a substantial discount. The numbers look fine but this is definitely not a shape one would want to get sight unseen. Of course, return policies do help with this... As for the color and clarity grades, these are by no means an unusual choice, and it really is up to you to decide wether they work well for you. Seeing some other J stone may help : a badly cut round would show color more, so those - or any other fancy, really - would do just fine, I guess.

Otherwise, it is great to inspect your diamond aside others for color comparison. I suspect a J color grade would look plenty white on it's own so side-by side comparison may be the best way to see what "color" means in these colorless stones

This could happen if the stone gets from Cyberspace into an appraiser's shop for you to get an evaluation and the proper reference for it.

Stones with points usually will face up darker. Every thing in this business is negotiable. The price the stone is being offered at is very fair. So even if you pay the price they are asking you are not getting burnt. But since they are not the more popular cut, and there are 260 or so odd days till xmas, maybe they want to move it and get the cash flow. Give them a counter offer. You never know until you ask. What is the worst thing they can say, No? If you do purchase it, make sure you know their return policy, and buy it with a credit card. Once you have it on your finger it may or may not perform the way you want.

I want to thank everyone for their advice.

Unfortunately, the vendor of this stone will not reply to my e-mails and also cannot be reached by phone. I tried to get intouch with this vendor way before posting my original post. I read somewhere else that someone else had a similiar problem with this vendor.

I had a problem with another vendor before that. That was another story!

These are not unknown vendors either.

I get more quality sales attention from a car salesman !

No. There really is no such thing as a good price for a diamond ring. The resale value of any diamond, if you're lucky, even with the cleanest purest whateveryoucallit kind is maybe about 50% of what you pay for it. Probably less. Buy a car for the money. Get yourself some other kind of ring.

Unless the sentimental value is worth it for you. In that case, spend whatever you like on whatever captures your heart. The next person to buy it off you won't pay what you paid no matter what.

The sad truth. Do some research.

The stone is not proprtioned right, it must be a little on the fat side, and Where does it say that it's excellent cut?is it on the cert?if not who decided that it is?,I dont' think that it is.
as far as price is,It's not a bad price, although it's about $80.00+/- more than it should be.
check the web and see if you have any other choices that could fit your budget ,broaden your search ,maybe to a lower color and better quality.

Debutante...this IS a diamond website, so chances are most people here know that diamonds are a luxury item and choose to pay that price. The original poster asked if it was a good price on the stone, not what else should she be doing with her money.

She's doing research, on her potential diamond purchase. That is more than appropriate for this type of forum.

For the most part I agree with you but there is a time and place for that kind of comment threads like this one arent it.
Threads about DeBeers price increases are a good place for em and there was one posted today.

I like heart shapped diamonds but I think they are almost impossible to buy by the the numbers.
Iv looked at maybe a dozen of them and only one was something Id consider buying.
The sad fact is that not many places cut them and the ones that do I suspect arent the top grade cutters.

Thank you again for your thoughts everyone! I would of liked to seen a picture of this diamond, but I am finding it extremely difficult to get a response from the vendor of this stone.
Because of this, I decided to look at other diamonds from different vendors. Today, I posted about a different diamond which is an emerald cut.
I liked the carat weight of this stone, but I decided to look at other stones with less weight and better color/clarity as an option.

On the website I saw the heart diamond listed on, it was listed as an excellent cut. This was not on the cert however.

I don't plan on reselling the diamond I end up buying. So, I am not worried about retaining the value on the stone.
