Fracture filling is the process of improving the clarity of a diamond by injecting a molten glass like substance into a diamond to fill a crevice which is often the result of the elimination of an inclusion through laser drilling. The process leaves tell tale traces like the flashes of purple seen in this photograph. The color of the flashes vary by manufacturer. Yehuda treated diamonds are often purple blue in reflection and those treated by Ovid are often orange or greenish yellow. Here''s another picture.

And here''s one "face up" showing how the treatment can''t be seen from the top...

It should be noted that Federal Law requires that fracture filled diamonds be sold with written disclosure indicating that they have been fracture filled to enhance the clarity of the diamond. While the slang term for the treatment is often referred to as "clarity enhanced" this is not considered to be legal disclosure. The treatment is also not permanent and can be burned out of the diamond with exposure to high heat in excess of 1400 degrees. Both Yehuda and Ovid offer lifetime warranty for their treated diamonds. No, we don''t sell them we''re just expanding on the definition with what we know...
