Found two rounds, what do you think?

I''ve been a long time lurker and finally having the courage the really start shopping for an engagement ring. The information I''ve gathered here is much more extensive than any jeweler has explained to me. You guys are awesome!

I now have two diamonds that are potentials but I won''t be able to see them in person. I am assured they are very eye-clean and have been provided with GIA Dossier reports. They don''t have any IS/ASET images but the person helping me has "seen" the hearts and arrows.

Diamond 1 (HCA 1.9) -

Now the price difference of the stones is ~$500. Which seems like the better proportioned diamond for the most sparkle/fire/brilliance?

Both are good stones, but will have a different character.

If you put the two stones side-by-side, number 1 would probably have more coloured flashes (fire), but the trade-off would be a slightly less bright stone. Number 1''s arrows and dark:light contrast would probably be slightly more prominent than number 2''s - and that effect will be enhanced by the shorter lower half % for number 1.

Number 1 is closer to Tolkowsky''s ideal, which is perhaps the safest option.

If you hunt around the SI1 grade, you have a good chance of finding an eye clean stone that scrapes through the 1ct mark - if the carat level is important to you.

No contest, Diamond 1 is much better balance.

Using HCA as a rejection tools for ligh, fire, scint, and spread, I would go for number 2 and reject 1.

Great! Thanks for all the responses. Now is $4950/diamond 1 $5400/diamond 2 reasonable or can that price range get me something better? If not, I have both still on reserve to contemplate the diamonds further.
