Hi everyone,

I am looking for a setting for a diamond I am buying from GoodOldGold.

I like the Crown type style (6 prongs) with a cathedral type shank and pave on the sides from both D.Vatche and Mark Morrell. My girlfriend likes big silver rings. A few rings she''s bought lately have been about knuckle size. She likes green too. So maybe emerald or some other green stones as sidestones might be good.

I got a quote on the D.Vatche Royal Crown with pave, and I found its probably going to cost as much as the diamond itself. Is this normal, seems kinda weird to me to be spending as much in the setting as the diamond itself?

I like these designs from Mark:

Flame Solitaire without diamonds in the crown

Does anyone have advice on other settings that are similar?

The diamond is a .69 G VS2

Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately with diamonds under a carat, the settings can easily cost as much or more than the diamond. I love both settings you are considering! I would discourage you from thinking about green stones in the setting. Sincerely, just because I love rings with colored stones does not mean I want them in my e-ring. Besides, emeralds are too soft for wear 24/7. Diamonds go with everything, so I''d stick with diamonds unless she specifically requested a colored gemstone e-ring.

I would choose either the Flame or the Vatche you mentioned. The Vatche will be a little more substantial looking because the band is probably a little wider than the Flame. So you may want to go with that one if she loves more substantial rings. But it is still beautiful with a diamond wedding band. I''d probably get it without the pave, though, so I could get a diamond wedding band.

That''s the other option I was considering, was getting a plan setting without pave. Then she could pick to have pave or diamonds on the wedding band. That sounds like a good option as well.
