I was looking for an Asscher and the jeweler I am working with was sent a Royal Asscher cut. He says it was cut in Isreal and "could possibly" be a real Royal Asscher, or at least cut by the same people. No RA engraving I don''t think. I can''t find any straight information on whether or not real Royal Asscher are still being produced or knock offs for that matter. I can''t find any recent information on these. most is from 2007 and before. Only Neiman Marcus seems to be selling them. It is gorgeous. I am just wondering if it is legit.

This one is

1.5 carat
G
VS2

His first price with a platinum setting was 13,900. He dropped it to 12,000. And now says he can go a little lower than that.

Any thoughts?

Step one (no pun intended) is to determine if it is an authentic Royal Asscher because this will affect the price a great deal.

I''d contact the Royal Asscher company and ask them about the vendor and give them the GIA report number of the stone.

How much does the authenticity of a Royal Asscher matter? If it has 74 facets should it be that big of a concern?

have you seen the diamond?
have pictures?
table and depth?

Assuming its a generic and well cut, high end internet is around ~$10250 + setting so 12k don't sound to bad depending on the setting.
If it was a RA it would be marked as such.

Hi! I have a Royal Asscher, and if the stone doesn''t have a laser inscription with the words "Royal Asscher cut" and a number, it isn''t a Royal Asscher.

I will find out the table and depth today. I have seen it. Next to other Asschers is pretty spectacular.

Will the jeweler just let me take pictures of it?

I believe RA has patented their asscher cut.
That doesn't mean another cutter can't physically duplicate the cut.
They just can't do it legally, and the seller certainly can't call it RA legally.

Lots of people do illegal stuff and get away with it from rolling through stop signs, going over the speed limit, downloading music, not reporting out-of-state-purchases and paying sales tax.
Just because you get away with it doesn't make it legal or right.

Keep in mind that if a RA has 74 facets and a copy also has 74 facets that does not mean they are at the same angles as they would be in an authentic RA.

Does this all matter?
It depends on you.
Some may value a real RA enough to pay the price, others would be happy with a copy at a lower price.

I would do research to be certain of what I'm buying and what an appropriate price is.
A real RA costs a lot more.

Tell the jeweler the only way you will consider buying it is if you can show the pics to some experts you know to get their feedback.

Also, ask to see the RA laser inscription on the girdle under they microscope and ask if Jeweler is an Authorized RA dealer and if the stone is new.
