Hi There,

I have been searching for a diamond for a little while now, I have come across this 1.3ct which I am really thinking about but want to get some professional opinions about it. Im looking more into the 1.3 range as 1.5ct in my country seem to be very highly priced, 1.2ct isnt too bad but I can afford a 1.3ct so why not get the most cts I can afford...
My concerns are the table and depth % and also the price.

All opinions are welcome, the more the better :)

Thanks

1.3ct Round Brilliant, E, VS2, 3EX, GIA issued in June 2008.
Measurements: 7.07-7.13 x4.23
Table: 62%
Depth: 59.6%
Crown angle: 34
Pavilion angle: 41.2
Girdle: medium
Fluorescence: none
Culet: none
Comments: pinpoints are not shown.
Key to symbols: cloud, crystal, feather.

Price: $14000

Unfortunately the cut is pretty poor on it...I would keep looking. Some GIA "Ex" cut stones aren't really that excellent...make sure to always run the numbers through the HCA cut advisor (under TOOLS above) and make sure it scores 2 or under.

DITTO!! Don''t make the same mistake I did and trust the excellent cut grade. I got mine recut shortly after buying it because it was past my return period but I wasn''t satisfied.

what numbers point out that it is a bad cut? i am having this same issue trying to find a diamond. everything looks good, but what is good vs bad.

Here are some parameters to follow, but always run it through the HCA to be sure.

the combos for crown and pavillion angles at the steeper and shallower ranges may need further examination.

depth - 60 - 62 ( although you can go deeper if all else is right, suggest a max of 62.6%)

table - 54 - 57%

crown angle -shallower 34 - 35% getting a bit steeper = further eval

pavillion angle - shallower 40.5 - 40.9 or 41 getting a bit steeper= further eval

girdle thin to slightly thick, medium, slightly thin are all fine, avoid extremes such as thin to ex thick.

As the others have said, the cut could be improved on. The table is larger on this diamond, some like this look but others prefer a smaller table between 54- 58% thereabouts. If you want to find out more about this diamond, then ask the vendor for an Idealscope image as that would tell us more about the cut quality. Not everyone wants a top notch superideal cut, some have other priorities and just want a nicely cut stone, so the key is finding the best ones. You can find a better one than this most likely, but get that Idealscope image if you want to proceed.

Mrs W found you some nice diamonds!
