Greetings and thank you for the wonderful forum!

Thanks to your advice and accomodating vendors, I think I found a diamond which piqued my interest. Specs are as follows:

EGL certified - yes, I need most bang for the buck.
Round brilliant
weight 2.5c
8.68 - 8.60 x 5.44 mm
Depth 63%
Width 55%
Crown Height 16%
Pav Depth 44%
Girdle thickness - Thin facedted
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Very good
Clarity S11
Graining Very slight
Color F
Flouresence: None
Tolkowsky ideal cut

price in the 20s.

What do you guys think? My primary goal is size and color followed by the other c''s within tolerable limits.

Thank you in advance?

It could be good. If you''re looking for the biggest size, I''d look for a stone that isn''t as deep. You''re at 63% depth and that is taking away from your diameter of the stone. Also, you''ll want to see if the SI1 clarity is eye clean. For color, just don''t count on it being a strong F, since EGL is lenient with grades.

thanks for the reply. Per the vendor, it''s supposed to be eye clean. Please tell me more about having too much depth and taking away from diameter... I certainly don''t want a bigger ring that is not visibly apparent b/c weight is most in depth...

Have you thought about fancies? Pears, ovals, marquises are larger than a round of the same carat weight. They also cost less. Large stones like 2.5 cts look especially good as a fancy cut, IMO. Of course, you''d have to get one with excellent cut.

Light Return = Good
Fire = Fair
Scintillation = Fair
Spread or diameter for weight = Good
Total Visual Performance 4.8 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion

HCA says it''s a loser, keep looking!

It also seems to be quite a bit out-of-round. That coupled with the extreme depth I would think that there would be a lot of lose through the lower pavillion facets. If you can get an ideal scope image it will show you that pretty clearly.
I''d focus on the CUT first then size and color. DO NOT COMPROMISE ON THE CUT!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for the input! Ok, will keep looking. What''s HCA?

Look at the top of the PS website, under Tools, go to cut advisor. Plug the diamonds numbers into the HCA scorer and it gives you a bit of an idea how the stone will perform. Look around on HERE and you''ll learn all about it.

GOD BLESSS this site!! Thank you again for the wealth of knowledge! Look out Martin S - I am coming armed. :)

On a serious note, I presume most online vendors represented here are highly regarded but is one better known for service and quality than others?

Whiteflash and Goodoldgold seem to be the two names that "pop" up the most. Both are very excellent vendors and set the standard for quality and service. As an added bonus, they will send you close up pictures, idealscope images, sarin report, basically everything you need to make an informed decision on any diamond they have in their inventory. Good Luck with the search!
