I''m hoping that someone on this board can help me out. Yesterday my gf and I went looking at rings (for about the 20th time), and FINALLY found something that she loves. I would like to see if I can find the ring online somewhere, and compare prices. Does anyone know of online catalogs of rings that I can look through? It seems like everyone has a few rings, but I haven''t found a site that has any and all rings I could ever think of! The establishment we found the ring at generally sells diamonds first, jewelery second, and when we asked if they would mount a diamond that I found elsewhere in the ring, they said they would, but I got the feeling that they were somewhat reluctant to do so. I KNOW I can get a much better diamond for my money online, and I think that is the way I am going to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
 
Maybe you could buy the setting from them & send it to whomever you buy your stone from, for the stone vendor to set.

You might get lucky and see it there if so almost anyone in the business can get it for you.
They are decent quality settings at reasonable prices.
 
I would just buy the setting from them and send it to whomever you buy the stone from online--have them set it. I would not want a local jeweler to set my expensive stone into his setting, I'd rather have the vendor I'm buying the stone from set the stone. Also, sometimes jewelers that set the stone into their setting tend to not want the responsibility of anything happening to it while under their care.
 
Oh... do you know who makes the ring you liked? Those sites do not contain all that many "antique style" settings. If this is your type, than a different selection could be better for a first search. If you could post 2 or three pictures of rings you like, PS will really get bussy answering...as usual!
 
Ring-makers tend to have their own sites and I don't know wether the perfect "hub" has yet been set. However, somepne else asked a similar Q lately and I brought up the best on-line places for viewing/buying settings I know of on THAT thread.

Thanks for the ideas. I haven't really found anything like it yet, but I'll keep looking! Maybe some helpful soul could help me describe it with the 'key' words so my searches are more successful. The ring itself has more of a square shape to it (so it doesn't spin I'm told). Then its kind of like a cathedral, but halfway up the cathedral, it bends in a bit more towards the center stone. There are five small princess cuts in the band on each side of the center stone, with three on one side of the bend, and two on the side of the bend closer to the center stone. The actual prongs are integral to the ring, with the prongs forming a V with the bottom v chopped off (the prongs don't meet). Maybe I'll sketch something and upload it, because I don't know if any of that made any sense at all! My gf is starting to second guess it now because she can't remember it , and it is/was the PERFECT ring. (IMO of course!)..

What was the store, the setting sounds really wow. I love the squared look and feel (not as much bulk between the fingers). The cathedral part also sounds intriguing, with the princess cut stones. It sounds like it would be a perfect setting for my sapphire! I would love to see a picture.

This is a sketch of the ring as best I remember it. I am starting to forget it now! (I didn't draw the center stone or the smaller princess diamonds in the band) I was hoping I'd find it online, just to compare it to other rings we have seen. Does anyone know how open jewelry stores are to taking pictures of their rings? I wouldn't mind purchasing the ring from this B&M store, but I'd like to have a pic of the ring to compare to other styles we come across.

I like the more modern look too. Somewhat squared off. This was the first ring that both of us agreed on. I was hoping that involving her in the whole process would make it easier, but I think it may be more complicated, because she isn't sure what she likes! So if I had just surprised her with something, that would be that.. ya know? Anyways, I saw the ring at a shop in Chicago.. down on Jeweler's Row.

This is similar to what you drew, at least the head for the main diamond is similar. If it does not come through, since I am new at this---the website is www.bergio.com. The style number is BR2051E-WB on the collections page under Union Mounting.

u really should check out the euro collection from this brand. they have the squared off bottom that u are after and some similar-looking rings.

also try scott kay's engagement diamond rings M0233QDPP, MO946QDPP, M0234QDPP

there r no prices online but both r branded settings so u can expect their settings to be above US$2k
 
Thanks for the ideas. I checked out all of the above sites, and it didn't really look like any of them. I think the closest stuff was the scott kay collections, but even those weren't quite there. We are going to try and look at it again this week and see if it is as good as we remember it! We stopped by one of the other shops that we had found a 'good' ring in, and it didn't look as good anymore.

I'll post when we revisit the ring and see if it is indeed as good as I remember it!
 
Just FYI, here is a pic of the ring... close to my sketch, but I had the prongs a little too small! Everything went well, and she said yes!

That is a really beautiful ring. I love the sharp look of the angled planes and the European shank. I could say that I carry a ring precisely along those lines, but advertising isn't allowed here.

Perhaps eventually I'll just get in the traditional groove and post several page long "unsolicited customer testimonials" about myself full of exclamation points and ad copy, as it seems to work well on PS.
