Hi! I''m new here...so glad I found this site.

I found a beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings at my local jewelry store. They are 1.50 ctw, color is G, clarity is SI2. They are extremely brilliant, round-cut, with a three-prong 14kt. white gold setting.

My question is...is the clarity on these ok for earrings?

The price is $6200.

I just don''t want to get ripped off.

Thank you so much!

Welcome!

Yes, if SI2 is acceptable to you and they are eyeclean, this clarity grade can be a very smart choice for earrings, and indeed ring stones if eyeclean. There are those who prefer higher clarity, but some who willingly go lower to get a larger diamond.

Do these diamonds have a grading report such as GIA or AGS? This can make a huge difference in price, generally GIA and AGS graded diamonds carry a higher pricetag than EGL or IGI for example. Also do you have any information on how well these diamonds are cut? It is cut quality which gives a diamond it''s beauty, so if you have the proportions such as

depth
table
crown angle
pavilion angle
girdle thickness
diameter measurements

then we can help you determine how well they are cut.

Hi CA,

The clarity is fine, if eyeclean (if that''s important to you). However, doing a search, a .75 G SI2 is starting out at just under 2000.00. Sound like you''d really be overpaying for that price. Are the from a Brick and Mortar store?

Not sure about the grade/cut. Will have to get back to you on that...I can say that the jeweler said they were cut extremely well. He said that is why they were so brilliant. (Of course he's not going to say, "These have a terrible cut! Don't buy them!")

Thank you for the help, though!

Oh no! Is it possible that the price is inflated because they are cut really well?

*crosses fingers*

Does it make a big difference in price when buying from a Brick and Mortar store?

No, they are very overpriced. I bought ideal cut H VS2 1.5 ct. studs for $6000 last year, so these should be well below that price. If you are open to ordering top quality stones for a better price, we can see if we can find some for you.

Pricewise, indeed it does. You will generally find the prices can be considerably greater than from online vendors, this is quite usual. You can certainly do better for price with buying online, but it depends on your preferences and comfort level.

For example, these Ready set to Go by Whiteflash, might be what you are looking for, it depends on whether you would wish to buy online or not, but this is an example of what else is out there.
