We'll I'm getting closer and closer....

I wanted to get everyone’s reaction to this stone. Thought I really needed a 1.5 but honesty after looking at 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, all side by side - I really can't tell the difference if the cut is great. I had been looking at diamonds all in the 9k range to get to 1.5, but the one below really stood out to me (for cut and value). Let me know what you think.

The cons for me are the color (j) and it’s not a 1.5 (the gf really like the 1.5 over the 1.3.... weird I know). The pros are that it seems very well cut (HCA 1.4 and it’s a signature H&A BGD). I have talked with BGD a couple times and this is apparently a really beautiful stone. I have a call scheduled with Brian today, and wanted to know if there is anything specific is should ask about it.

Thanks to all the above posters! You guys are great.

I'm no expert, but that stone looks nice! Hopefully before you talk to him others can chime in and assist you further. I would ask the basic questions, primarily making sure that the stone is 'eye clean'. With that, make sure you ask what their specification for 'eye clean' is (12" from the eye, 6", so on) so you can get a good idea about if the inclusion is visible and at what, if any, distance. Because you picked out the stone I trust that you have looked through the different colors and have decided that 'J' will fit your tastes/budget.

Good luck on your call, let us know how it goes!

That is a superbly cut stone. As Scepture says, discuss whether this diamond is eyeclean to your standards with Brian. If you are unsure with the J colour, BGD do have a generous inspection period so you can decide for yourself, also if you have a Jareds closeby, go and check out their Peerless brand in J colour of similar size, this will give you some idea while you are waiting for your diamond.

Well its been about 5 months since I last posted on here (I proposed in February of this year). I wanted to catch everyone up on the diamond that I ended up purchasing and share a little about my experience with BGD.

I ended up going with a 1.4 round brilliant BGD Hearts and Arrows signature series “000” J diamond. And let me tell you, the people on this site know what they are talking about. This diamond out shines every other diamond ring we compare too. It all about the cut! Some of her friends have larger diamonds from the box stores, and they definitely create a wow factor due to size, but the closer you get the difference become all the more apparent. I went down in size and color…. and couldn’t be happier. No one knows it’s a J but me, and all we hear is how “bright and sparkly” it is. For anyone considering a J diamond, do NOT fret – it will look absolutely gorgeous (if from a reputable dealer and cut well). She walked in a box store the other day with a friend who was shopping around and the sales clerk immediately noticed the Hearts and Arrows cut and said what a beautiful diamond she had. My fiancé came home and asked, “what’s a hearts and arrows diamond?” – you could image my excitement and explanation. Now her friend only wants a hearts and arrows!

As for and BGD, he (and his wife) spent about 2 hours on the phone with me, one week night –talking me through everything. We went over everything, never talking about price, only quality. And while having F color diamond would be great, we walked through the saving to be had by going to a lower color. His wife even talked about a group of women she knows who only buy J color. If you’re considering buying online, BGD is a great person to talk with.

I attached a picture from one of our engagement shoot last week. It was taken at about 7PM on the hood of a car in-between shots, and I don’t know if that affects the quality of the “sparkle” of the diamond as there wasn’t much light. We have a couple more opportunities to get pictures of it/and the band on the big day – but I couldn’t resist putting up a picture.

Thanks again to the Pricescope community – let me know if there are any questions I can answer, particularly how my J diamond and experience with BGD went.

Glad you are happy KAD! I also own a J color BGD stone and would have suggested that option to you myself had I seen your thread when it was originally active.
