Re: Fortune Tellers, Clairvoyants, Psychics - believer or no
That's really interesting, JewelFreak... I think that there are some people who have near death experiences and they really have an experience that cannot be explained medically and that they are not having hallucinations.
I think some people do have some very intense and real-feeling dreams whilst unconscious also, but there have been many cases where people can accurately describe events going on outside the room they are in, in hallways, in other rooms, this can't be explained medically.
Even my late Mother, she was in a persistent vegetative state coma and yet she grabbed my hand when I spoke to her a few minutes before she passed....medically impossible, yet it happened.
It's quite amazing, I have seen so much that can't be explained scientifically in a medical setting.
Hearing is the last sense to go so I talk to all of my non-resposive patients as though they can hear me. Sometimes family asks why I'm talking to them, I just think it's respectful. If they can hear me then they know what I'm doing, what all the poking and prodding is for and hopefully they aren't as scared or feel so alone, but if they can't hear me then no harm either.
With Death Bed Phenomenon (DBP), it has always been put down to symptom of the disease process, the body shutting down, side effects of medication(s), infection, etc. However, these are scientifically/medically proven cause states of delirium, a patient loses the capacity for coherent thoughts and they subsequently act abnormally, restless, agitated, etc. Any "visions" are usually impersonal and cause patients to be upset or scared.
Now in DBP it's the opposite, patients are calm, very lucid, and "visions" are very personal, usually a loved one who's passed visits them or they see what they describe as an angel(s). They aren't upset or delirious, they are very comforted and calm, very different and medically unexplainable.
It spans all faiths too which is quite something...
Many times at work I have seen lights from no source, orbs, parts of people, never a full person (which makes no sense to me) and I have been told so many stories from patients.
I'm of no specific denomination myself, I approach the whole thing with wonder and also appreciate that some people don't believe some people can communicate with people who have passed away, to each his own right

No license requirement for jewelry appraisers, however some that I know will tell you anything that you want to hear![]()

Maplefemme, interesting experiences & thoughts. I saw an ER dr. this afternoon talking about near-death experiences & saying that when he talks to patients who've had them, he's certain they saw something real, not dreams or hallucinations. Many drs., he said, now feel there's more going on than science can explain.
Several years ago I read that emergency rooms across the country started an experiment. They put a shelf very close to the ceiling where nobody could see it from the ground; on it sits a piece of paper with a number. When patients talk about "floating out of their bodies" they hope this will confirm or debunk at least some of it. Haven't seen anything about results.
