I wanted a thread for us to be able to participate in this week too.

Are you planning on taking one? If so where would you like to go? Do you think you''ll go soon?

DH and I would like to go in the next year to 2 years. We are thinking we are going to spend it in Santorini or Athens. And we can''t wait :)

The only thing that I am sad we''ll miss out on is that brand new newlywed feeling but at least we still have something to look forward that others do not anymore, ya know?

We didn''t take a HM. We would like to go to St. John next winter.

We moved instead. We usually take a vacation per year. We''ll spend this summer around the state because there is so much to do here!

DH and I have never taken a vacation before, and I''ve never left the country so the wait feels insane!

smurfy - I didn''t mean it like that! I don''t want you to feel left out. please post a photo of after your wedding day when you just felt at bliss together... if you were able to take a photo of such a moment.

We have not had one yet. When we got engaged we ended up getting married ten weeks later over a long weekend at a resort in the province over as a temporary compromise for not doing a honeymoon right away :) There just was not the ability to take the time off, or the finances (we both moved provinces last year, I started a new career, he left his to go back to school, I have massive student loans still, etc).

We do talk about it often though. We honestly both love to travel, and there is not one day my husband does not say "oh, I would really like to go there with you!". He''s spent time in Dubai, Santorini, Italy, Egypt, Greece, etc and loves them all, and would really like to go back to those places (especially Dubai, Santorini and Italy) again with me on a HM that encompasses them all in some way. We also talk about Spain or New Zealand (I have been to NZ and would like to return there with my husband). We need to win the lottery!

We probably won''t do so for a couple years though. For now we just do lots of weekend camping trips and other jaunts and we are considering doing a week or two road trip over to BC and down the Oregon and California coast this summer :)

I don''t mind not having done it right after. I think we will be able to have just as much fun even if it is not right after the wedding!

we weren't able to (we went straight back to work) but i appreciate the thought
it's just with the other topics, usually people can find a way to be included whether they were married in a courthouse, eloped somewhere, had a traditional church wedding, whatever it may be. while on the other hand, not all of us were able to take a honeymoon fykwim.

for monetary reasons, we thought we weren''t going to be able to take one. also, df has finals the week after our wedding. however, because i had a really nice tax refund this year we were able to book a week in panama city at the seahaven resort (really great prices, btw). we are staying for 5 nights, 6 days in a suite facing the beach. total price is somewhere between $400 and $500. can''t wait! we also have a honeymoon registry and have gotten a few monetary gifts on there.

What about doing a "mini-moon" over a weekend? Take a Friday or Monday off and it can be a long weekend. You can find a little B&B within an hour or two drive (I find a lot of B&B''s are VERY reasonably priced....and with neat atmosphere and lovely breakfasts!) and take your camera! It will also help build the excitement towards planning the bigger deal.

Don''t feel too bad. There are lots of threads while I was planning and after we got married that don''t really fit with me either as we skipped SO many of the "usual" wedding stuff (no regrets but....I mean so many threads talk about cakes, save the dates, professional photographers, professional save the dates & invites, the walk down the aisle, wedding parties, receptions & dances, huge weddings, honeymoons, wedding drama and we did not have ANY of that - we did not even have an engagement ring and my proposal came by a text message (LONG story) so I find things don''t fit all the time). We had a really unique ceremony which definitely does not fit the standard wedding things. I have been to many weddings that DID have those things though....so I still have thoughts.

I don''t think it is at ALL uncommon for couples not to take a honeymoon right away. I know many who wait one or two years.

Yeah DH and I just aren''t keen on mini moons. We want our first official vaca to be a honeymoon. We are just into sentimental things like that I guess. If I could do it over I would have eloped and had the honeymoon at the same time!

Smurfy--If your decision is between Santorini and Athens, the answer is SANTORINI all the way.
Athens is a big, dirty city. It''s worth a short visit, but they are like night and day. Santorini is one of the most beautiful places I''ve ever visited, Athens, not so much.

And: Don''t feel left out of this week''s thread. At least you have beautiful wedding photos. Ours were horrible, yet I still find a way to participate. :)

BeachRunner--St. John is amazing. We honeymooned there and it was unbelievable. If you like to hike, it''s even better, because 75% of the island is a National Park.

Well we are torn because we are huge history lovers which is why athens
but you''re right, santorini is very pretty and dh has never been there either

DH and I are huge outdoorsy people, and that''s one of the reasons why we want to go to that specific island. We like the idea of not a lot of huge resorts, and absolutely love the fact that most of the island is a NP.

Thanks! We can''t wait!

You have to fly into Athen''s anyway, so why not do both? We only spent a day in Athen''s and it was jammed with history but it was well worth it.

We didn''t take a honeymoon either and we''ve been married 2 years this summer.. not sure when we will - hopefully before there are any kids..
we spend a lot of our vacation time and budget visiting my familiy 5000km away each year

we do regular mini-moons though out to the Rockies - eventually I''m hoping to do Switzerland and Scotland (again for me - I''ve been to both but my husband hasn''t)!

It''s PERFECT for you then! We''re super outdoorsy, too, and we definitely aren''t "resort" people. We really loved St. John, it is a beautiful island to explore. We took a to Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda, both BVIs, which were two amazing day trips, too.

You guys are going to love it. DH and I definitely want to go back when we can.

We likely won''t be able to go on a honeymoon right away. FI is due to start police academy on April 23, and our wedding is May 29th. He will get home late on Friday night, we will get married Saturday, have Sunday off, then he will go back to academy on Monday. I don''t even think he will make the rehearsal hahaha.

We plan to take our honeymoon on our year anniversary to Alaska. At least now we will have our current honeymoon fund plus a year to save!

We haven''t taken our honeymoon yet either. But, we went to NYC for a long weekend the weekend after our wedding just to get away and then the next month we went to Munich for Oktoberfest and a long weekend in Vienna (for his work)...and we have two more mini-moons (to Las Vegas and NYC) in the next couple of months before we finally take our honeymoon this summer.

I don''t feel left out, just as I hope others don''t feel left out if they didn''t have bridesmaids or groomsmen, or if they didn''t have a reception or whatever...

I just haven''t had a honeymoon...but the thread will still be there when I DO take my honeymoon and I will be sure to post my favorite pic then!

Thanks! Normally, I would be right there with you...but NYC really was only a long weekend AND the hotel didn''t have any king (or even queen) beds left, so we spent our first trip as newlyweds sleeping in separate twin beds!

The trip to Munich for Oktoberfest was for DH''s work and I flew in for the weekend and we entertained his client at the tents and took them around the places we know. We flew to Vienna (also for his work) directly from MUC and I flew home by myself after the first night because he was working...(not my idea of a romantic getaway even if we always manage to have a blast together)

The coming trip to Las Vegas is a group trip with some friends and the trip to NYC is for a bike race DH is taking part in with some co-workers.

I call them mini-moons because we will still be away without kids...but I am definitely looking forward to taking our actual honeymoon where it will be just me and him and we can spend at least one week if not more together just the two of us...

We didn''t have a honeymoon, and no plans to take one anytime soon. We have a young child and I wouldn''t feel comfortable going away very long. Perhaps when she''s older.

At least you have a good attitude about it! My DH was out of the country the whole week before the wedding and got back late the night before, so we didn't have a rehearsal. I did go out to dinner with a bunch of family and friends, but he wasn't even back yet when I left for dinner, and was asleep by the time I got home. But the wedding still went almost perfectly, so don't worry too much -- it can be done!

We also delayed our honeymoon because it was the middle of my semester and I couldn't skip that many classes. But it was sooo worth it when we finally went.

We didn''t take one. We had one planned for Jan, but I lost my job (DH is a student until May), so we cancelled.

Honestly, at this point I''m not too fussed. I love just going to the grocery with DH

, plus since its already a year for us I would probably rather put the $$ towards a house. Not to say we won''t travel, we may in the fall in fact, but a honeymoon has ceased being a major priority.
