For those who DO cook, what do you tend to make? Should this be a separate thread?
Hmmmm we''re vegetarians so we eat:
Oven roasted veggies with pesto over cous-cous
Baked manicotti
Papardelle pasta with wild mushrooms and mascarpone cream sauce over spinach
chili (I have about 5 different recipes)
veggie paella (brown rice, baked tofu and corn, peas, and tomatoes)
nachos (I make the tortilla chips from small yellow tortillas)
lots of salads (my fave is avocado, black beans, red bell peppers, cucumber, corn, lettuce, and bbq-ranch that i mix together)
I made a soup from scratch once a week usually (minestrone, corn and potato chowder, loaded baked potato, broccoli cheese, etc.)
stir-fry recipes with seitan/tofu and rice

When I cook for my parents who eat meat and seafood:
halibut and tri-colored bell peppers
steaks and roasted garlic whipped potatoes
lobster ravioli

I''m a total kitchen person though. If I didn''t have a problem with passing out in the heat, I''d probably have gone to culinary school to be a chef. I bake bread every week, make muffins every Sunday, and a baked good on Tuesdays. I''m a regular June Cleaver. Haha. No wonder I run a blog about this stuff.

zoe, I second (or third or whatever we''re up to) the suggestion for panko. Yummiest thing on earth!

Cello, how do you bake so much bread without gaining 100lbs! If I made bread every week, I would also gain a pound or two per week eating all of that bread (probably in the first two days after baking).

Your house sounds yummy though!

OK...this is a long-ish piece but a fun read about Americans love/hate relationship with cooking. I loved it.

And still haven''t seen Julie & Julia, but have plans to.

Out of The Kitchen, Onto The Couch

I''m pregnant, so that helps :-) But when I''m not, I usually bake a few loaves a week because DH and I eat sandwiches for lunch most days and toast for breakfast (with other things) at least a couple times a week. I freeze whatever we haven''t used after 4 days. :-)

Ksinger, thanks for the article! It's really interesting.

And as far as Julie & Julia goes, I would absolutely recommend the book as well. The movie was interesting for the Julia Child parts, but the caracter of Julie was pretty watered down. She's much more interesting in her book where she's extremely sarcastic and has the vocabulary of a sailor
