Doesnt looking at all these diamonds make you wish there was something really cool we get when we get engaged??? Just a thought

there are a few special guys that have gotten engagement gifts. do a search and see if anything shows up. i know i remember reading about it. mine wanted a big screen.

Well, a lot of men get pretty nifty luxury watches as wedding presents

my BF is European...he didn''t understand the American custom of spending many thousands on a ring.

I compared it to a TV, and promised one for him when/if... Now he gets it.

My FI got an engagement guitar

my mom bought my fiance a digital camera when we got engaged and i got him a mountain bike as a wedding/birthday present.

I''m a girl but I''ll chime in to say that I bought my fiance a watch to celebrate our engagement. He is a watch collector, and I got him a Nomos Tangente. He will be getting another watch for our wedding present next year.

im a guy and i did not receive anything as an engagement present....
hummmmm

My husband loves to golf, so for my engagement gift I bought him a Ping G10 driver that he had been eyeballing. lol

well, I am a pretty broke student right now, but I would love to get my FF a TV or something substantial. Maybe pay for him to do aerial dogfighting or something....

Friend of mine talked his wife into getting him an engagement high-definition television (60" Sony). Her friends still haven''t forgiven her.

My fiance received a Channel Islands Black Beauty Surfboard. :)

Yeah seriously. I''d really like a Canon 5d mk2 plus some L glass...its drops in the bucket compared to an E ring!

What a lucky man he is :)
That is an awesome board...

I think it''s unfair that women have many more options to wear diamonds, but that''s life.

I''m also a girl and gave my Fi an engagement gold chain.

Uh, hey, he got ME!

Aw Mike, don''t feel so bad. My man got me the cheapest engagement ring ever, and then bought himself a boat upon the birth of my first child. He''s a great guy, but he has no idea!! AT ALL!!!

Also, we got him a really nice and rather expensive wedding ring - which he lost within two weeks. Now, he tells me he''s totally off jewellery.

Mr. New York,

I was in the same boat so i created my own wedding band. Take a look. I know this is too much for some, but not me.

i got my hubby a tag heuer for our engagement after he proposed! i agree, us women shouldn''t get all the bling!

I was gift enough. I guess I could have offered to wrap my self up in paper and stick a bow on my head......

I got my fiance an engagement gift. Not nearly as expensive as my ring, but it cost enough and he loved it! But Joflier- I like the ''I am gift enough'' theory!

joflier and just julia- I''d say I''m a pretty decent catch too :-)

I''m the one who proposed in my relationship, so it was kind of a nice extra for my husband to get me an e-ring. I proposed spontaneously, so shortly after the fact, in keeping with his traditions (Swedish) I made us matching engagement bands. I did ask him right off the bat if he wouldn''t like a nice diamond (response: NO! NO BLING!), and then something else to commemorate the occasion, but no dice. It would be a lovely tradition, I think, if men got rings for engagement, too: just a little bit more egalitarian.

I''m planning on getting my BF an engagement present! I plan on starting to save for his gift when he starts saving for mine, then giving him the budget and letting him pick what he wants (he''s agreed to let me design/pick my own ring, so I feel like it''s only fair to let him pick his gift).

SO will get some kind of engagement present too!

He works in construction and he''s not the type who''d use a fancy watch (unfortunately, as I do think it would make a lovely gift in theory). So maybe a flat-screen TV, something like that.

His dream engagement gift would be a CAT (as in, the heavy machinery). I like diamonds, he likes tools. LOL.

I gave DH the down payment to his Subaru STI - his dream car.

I feel like engagements are so one-sided still, and needlessly so. Men and women are getting pretty even on pay scale, much more often than in past decades women will earn nearly as much or more than men, and I just never understood why it was so unfairly unbalanced. I don't subscribe to the idea that *I* was the gift, since I'm not selling myself, nor am a commodity that can be bought or sold.

So, I changed it. I started suggesting to every male friend I know to start bringing up the concept of an engagment exchange to his g/f when talks of marriage pop up. I find the women that don't flinch at the idea are generally the keepers.

I stand by my belief that as educated and employed women, we should start a new tradition of exchanging something of sentimental value for engagements.

Got him a harley *(well financed it and paid down payment)
