Does your J stone have any fluorescents? Did you compare the J''s to higher colors?

I have an ACA that AGS graded as an I, but which a couple of appraisers say is a J. It has slight fluorescence. I have compared it to higher-coloured stones. It''s not less white, just darker.

I have an E, H and 2 Js. Side by side, the E is icy white, the H is white, the Js are warm white. None have fluorescence. My aim is still to own a diamond with strong blue fluorescence down the road.

Is it true that fluorescence can cause ''milkyness'' in diamonds? Just a comment a jeweler made.

Very rarely, and it is usually strong blue that may have this effect of oiliness or milkiness. To put it in perspective, an expert here who has sold thousands of diamonds over the years, has only seen negative effects from fluorescence in a handful of stones. Best to check with a vendor if considering a diamond with strong blue to be prudent.

Thanks Lorelei!

you know - that''s funny..... I have a J and I went around for an entire month to every jewelry store I could find within 20 miles and compared compared compared my stone to everything I could find and I just now realized I didn''t ONCE compare it for color. I compared other stones against each *other* for color... but I never actually took my stone and went oh its more yellow than that H and less yellow than that L. I could see with my eyes how yellow it was... and to be quite honest I''m not sure I love the J color. I think storm is right - it should be above H or below L. J is kinda like you didn''t do it on purpose LOL I wish my stone had a bit MORE color to it. But who am I kidding, I do love my stone''s color I just think it falls into a category where others may not appreciate it as much as I but oh well! Though if I did have an L maybe then I''d think *that* wasn''t appreciated LOL

Mine has faint fluor and in the sun it looks pretty normal... inside it looks a little very light ivory hued.... the only time it looks really yellow is under jewelry light etc. I have a video of it in a grocery store that makes it look almost fancy yellow!!

I think for me there isn''t a color I really don''t like but I wouldn''t pay much of a premium for one over another unless I had a very specific reason... like a D with strong blue or something. I really like the lost range from M-S and I wish I had a beautiful stone to represent that... of course tone means a lot as well... and I would be happier with a yellow that leaned toward brown or orange than toward green.

Anyway... why do you ask?

Well, FWIW, my RB is a J and shows NO yellow whatsoever. It shows a very slight creamy warmth when placed against a stark white background, but no yellow. Also, for OP - nope, no flouro, although I wish it did. I think flouro''s cool!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I''d take a J colored RB with a good cut anyday!!! I have even seen some beautiful K colored ones.... but the cut is everything... wooooooooooooooooooooo just my opinion :) Lynn''s and Mara''s are beautiful

My J has slight blue fluor which can be seen in certain types of lighting...in general I don''t know that it makes it face up that much more white...but in sunlight it glows a pretty white blue. From the top down it looks very white, and many people who see it ask if it''s a ''colorless'' range stone (aka they guess D/E/F and sometimes G/H) BUT from the side it does have a warm tinge, like winter white, not yellow...but more just off-white. It doesn''t bother me at all but I do think that if I went larger like 3.5c or something I''d probably *try* to get an I colored stone if I could afford it, or a med blue or strong blue fluor J or one that was borderline I/J rather than J/K. But maybe not as I have seen some amazing larger K and L stones that just have such personality to them.

Thank you for all that replied. The reason is I am looking at a round J, but no flour. I was wondering if that makes a difference. I have seen G''s and it looks wonderful. I guess I have to ''see'' the J in order to make a decision.
