You guys must get tired of all this help me pick, but please help me pick.

I've narrowed my search to three stones from good old gold. They are what the budget allows with my colour preferences.

Thoughts? I'm partial to the star and wish the 1.02 AVC look more symmetrical like the 0.86 and that stone was 1 carat

I also have this video of the three:

Thanks!

I prefer the one in the middle in the vid.

My pick on the video is the AV star no.1 the smaller AVC .86 next, I usually like longer AVCs for rings, but you are correct the smaller AVC which is more of a squarer shape is a really pretty stone too.

Overall I think the larger you go with these stones the better they look (I used to own a .99 AVC) so my vote is for the AV Star.

Me too that IS the AV Starr.

Another vote for the star!

The star is the star of that line-up :praise:

They are all beautiful stones, but every fraction of a mm counts at this size. So I vote for the largest, which happens to be the Star!

HI:

I must have "stars" in my eyes since (for once) I didn't pick the stone with the highest color and clarity just for the sake of it! Let us know what "you" decide!

cheers--Sharon

The star, no contest.

I like the one in the center.

These are all lovely but HOLY MOLY, am I the only person that thinks they are really expensive? 8K for an H color 1 carat? Wow. This may be a subject for another thread, but when you get insurance and they don't take branded cuts into consideration, how do you get your value back if something happens?

+1 Couldn't have said it better myself.

You aren't the only one. Lol.

But everybody puts their money where they feel most comfortable, weather that's ct, color, branded cut, what have you.

Hmm for overall brightness, I actually prefer the 0.86 E the best.
The star is lovely, but the dark headshadow "x" at the center of it would bother me a bit, but headshadow does vary depending on viewing angle and distance etc. so it might not be as big of a deal in real life.

Size wise though, the star has the biggest impact, and side by side with generic diamonds in real life, any one of these AVCs will out shine them, no contest.

Which one do your eyes favor? Get the one you think is the prettiest.

I like the shape of the 86 most. But I'm more partial to squares vs rectangles. The star is a close second for me!

I thought so to, but from looking on Blue Nile and the like, any ideal, or signature ideal (or whatever convention they have for best) cut diamond of similar clarity, color and carat are similar prices. Certainly north of $7000. Factor in the uniqueness of the cut and bankwire discount and it's not terribly unreasonable.

I'm not a diamond guy though and I find the idea of a rock costing more than I found it on the ground to be kinda loopy. Her smile will be worth it though!

Thanks for all input! I'm going to reserve the star diamond. Time to find a setting!

That's the right attitude!

And yes, ideal cut/ branded cushions now are close to H&A rounds, I've noticed.

OP, you are the sweetest guy ever :appl:

Dolly, one insures a specialty cut so that it would be replaced with the same exact cut. So it absolutely matters that the stone is identified as a specialty cut for insurance purposes. If he uses his appraisal from GOG for insurance, he should be able to have another AVStar as a replacement stone if something happened to the first stone.

Scotty, in regard to the GOG insurance appraisal, please tell them you do not want an inflated value. Sales price to 10% over to allow for a few years of inflation is what I normally prefer. You drastically overpay insurance premiums with an artificially inflated valuation.

diamondseeker this is super interesting, and because of this thread I actually called my appraiser (Patrick Davis) for more info. He said that the only time you can include a branded cut on an appraisal is 1)if it is etched into the diamond 2) if it is noted on the GIA/ AGS cert. He brought up some celebration diamond or some such thing as an example. Looks like AVC's fall into this category as they are girdle inscribed.

He then said that if it was a branded cut that was not etched on to the stone ( like a Henri Daussi or some other branded cuts) or called out on the report, it would be noted as just what is written on the cert and appraisal would not cover the "branded" version- just the lower to mid price range of what a comparable stone would be.

Fascinating, at least to me.

Either way, sorry to threadjack OP but make sure you get this bad boy insured!!!!

Oh yes, August Vintage stones do have the inscription and some also have it written on the AGS cert. I am pretty sure Jon will have all his specialty cut stones inscribed. I can see the AVStar has August Vintage branding on the AGS report and it probably is inscribed as well.
