I have come to realize that the left's (PSers included) inability to understand why anyone could vote for Trump is equal to the right's (mine included) inability to fathom the level that liberals have lost their minds since the election. There has to be the same level of incomprehension on both sides. So when you are so frustrated at conservatives please know that most are equally so.

I agree with the other posters who said that that one cannot equate President Obama with Trump. One can equate other Republicans with him, like that fool George W Bush who caused the disaster in Syria if you wish. He was elected in a very suspicious way and then had me biting my nails for eight years. But I didn't jump out of my skin about the legitimacy of his presidency. The difference now is that it is Trump, not Bush or Romney who is President that makes him different. But it is also because Trump lies constantly and attempts to trample the Constitution and is totally ignorant of the way US government is supposed to work, something I taught to children who left my classroom far less ignorant than he is right now.

You also wrote (besides writing that Obama was as frustrating to you as Trump is to us) that you couldn't do a single thing about the current situation. But you you could. You posted recently that you wrote to The White House. You can write to other people, too. Yesterday I wrote to both my Senators and my Congresswoman about Mr. Flynn. I said I wanted him removed from office and investigated for any possible criminal activity. I also said I wanted the President and Vice-President investigated for possible criminal conspiracy in undermining President Obama's foreign policy.

You are of one ideology and I am of another. I felt Obama used EO's to further his agenda, with immigration especially, when Congress would not do what he wanted. This to me is just as egregious as you feel Trump is now. Add to that the debt he incurred and Obama is every bit as bad IMO. The politics that grew under Obama is shameful and is the root of much of the vitriol in the US now. You may not like my views but I am not alone obviously. I am not an activist or a protester so I will do what I deem necessary when it is necessary. I am glad we are all free to act (or not) in the way we see fit. As far as how government is supposed to work, well I feel that how it has been working - excessive spending - is something that could use some fresh eyes anyway.

You know what I am reminded of while reading this thread? When Bobby Knight said "if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it."

And Red, this argument of yours that you tolerated Obama for 8 years without much complaint, oh, I mean without losing your mind or flipping out? Good for you. Just don't expect others to be so complacent.

Honestly, I think if the government put together an actual serious investigation into the campaign and Russia they would find that nearly all of the high ranking GOP and Trump's campaign were involved with Russia to put Trump in office. It is very suspect to me that Ryan and McConnell were so closed mouthed about Trump during the campaign when other GOP members were outspoken critics. He does not exactly follow the GOP platform. I think Manafort, Bannon, Conway, Trump, Pence, Priebus, Ryan, and McConnell were all in on it as well as Flynn and Tillerson. I think that Russia has some very damning evidence on Trump and his interests in China and his weird sexual proclivities and planned the entire time to blackmail Trump. I think Ryan, McConnell, Pence, and Priebus just wanted a pliable moron in office to push their agenda for their corporate donors so they would continue to enrich themselves at any cost. I think Tillerson, Flynn, Manafort are all paid Russian stooges. And Bannon just wants to collapse the state for total dictatorial control, and he saw the whole mess as a way to push his crazy agenda.

That's just me, though. If the administration was smart (ha ha) they would throw Flynn under the bus and cut ties to hide their own guilt, kinda like Nixon tried to do with Dean. Except that didn't work out so well, but Congress hated Nixon. This GOP congress will happily sell their souls for money and power, so Trump has some protection if he is smart enough to use it.

I think this also. That some of the report about Trump has been proven to be true now, it seems probably that the rest of the sordid report is true.

Bannon is the type of guy that would nuc a country for fun... just to show power. His hate of Islam is so huge that he is distorted.

I seriously can't imagine hanging out on a forum comprised of mostly conservatives and stomping around their political threads telling them to basically stfu/get over it already. Banning people because of their religion is a lot more serious than worrying about when Cheeto goes to the bathroom.

Redwood, in my life I never contacted my congressperson or senator, in my whole life, never ever thought of it. I tolerated Bush jr pretty much without complaint except the usual 'god he's an idiot' kind of stuff. I felt he had integrity and his wife and kids were normal Americans.. This is a horse of a different color. This is pretty with an agenda. in charge. war.

I would like to comment on your thoughts on Obama, specifically you think he's responsible for the turmoil today. I would say that tea party/alt left people went nuts because there was a black president, as soon as Obama was elected the racist comments, memes started and while I don't think in any way that you are racist, but some people who think they aren't, are and it just was 8 years of attacking the nicest man and his wife. Politically Obama is more left than I am, but I appreciated his caring of the less fortunate, and those who have been treated as 2nd class Americans.

I had hoped that Trump would really take into consideration that he lost the popular vote and send some type of fig leaf.. a supreme court nominee in the vein of Garland.. honesty on Obamacare and say that he has no plan and will keep Obamacare in place until they have something better. No DeVos.. but he didn't he went ALT RIGHT!!!!.. so the left went gonzo. It is mainly college students, millenials. Young people who have woken up a bit. No fig leaf.. no consideration and bringing together.

The ALT right called the ALT Left :) snowflakes, and babies, but in reality and I've always thought that the left can and has shown they have a lot of verve.

I just wanted to respond to Kate's remarks about contacting one's representatives above. To my ears the comments she made seemed to imply that contacting one's Congressman and Senators was a negative act, something done by a whiner and complainer who could not accept the government that was elected. My opinion of writing to my representatives is diametrically opposed to that. I have written to my representatives all my life; as a child I wrote with pen and ink and mailed my letters through the US postal service. In fact, I believe that I was taught to write these letters in my elementary school classrooms as part of my normal assignments. Children, then, were taught to write letters and they were also taught to contact their representatives and tell them how they felt about matters. I have always kept the people who represent me informed about how I feel they are doing. How else could they know?

I interpreted Kate's comment about never thinking to contact Congress/Senate to mean it just wasn't something SHE would have thought to do or considered as an option. I think a lot of folks don't necessarily feel comfortable reaching out or they think it won't make a difference, or that their correspondence will go unnoticed anyway. No one ever taught me to write letters to the statehouse when I was growing up, although my mother was very active on a local level.

And I did not take Kate's comments as a criticism of me. But it was unclear to me whether Kate thought that it was a laudable action for people to contact their representatives. I think it is a civic responsibility, like voting. This is a democracy. It cannot function if we don't participate.

Sorry if it sounded like that Deb :( what I meant was: I had never felt so scared that I was compelled to contact my reps.

Everyone should contact their reps. whenever and as often as they want.

As an aside I agree with Deb on contacting your reps, local and state. Even if it is to agree or tell them you approve of something. No one likes only getting rants from constituents.

Here I thought there was nothing I liked about him, and I was wrong. I adore golden-doodles, they are awesome.

If his (apparent) idiot advisors would stage some photo-ops of him walking that dog around the WH grounds or throwing a frisbee to it or something, I'm pretty sure his approval rating might jump up about a half percent, at least. Another half percent if he tweeted said pics. For someone who thinks he knows everything about business he and his crew sure have no clue how to sell him or this administration. Anyone in advertising/marketing worth their salt knows you don't have to worry about those you've already got buying your product; it's the ones you haven't sold to yet you need to work on!
