ICYMI, National Security Advisor Flynn reportedly discussed sanctions with Russian ambassador before Trump took office:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/09/...ore-trump-took-office.html?smid=tw-share&_r=1

https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...c2cf509efe5_story.html?utm_term=.68192e47a5ad

So far, a whole lotta nothin' from the WH and congressional republicans, though I can't imagine the outrage had this been a Hillary-appointed NatSec. Other prominent members calling for his suspension or removal.

Thoughts? What is going on with this administration and Russia? And because it also implicates Pence, do you think Pence knowingly lied, or was simply too trusting of the information he'd been given by Flynn?

Ugh, I saw this earlier. No idea what to think at this point, but to be honest I don't put anything past this administration. On the one hand it just seems to absurd to be true, but on the other....loook who we're talking about.....and then it seems less absurd.

The entire thing makes me nauseous.

Hey, remember when Rep's rallying cry was BUT HER EMAILS!??? Notice the hilarious silence surrounding the fact that Trump uses an unsecured phone? Yeah.

Honestly, I think if the government put together an actual serious investigation into the campaign and Russia they would find that nearly all of the high ranking GOP and Trump's campaign were involved with Russia to put Trump in office. It is very suspect to me that Ryan and McConnell were so closed mouthed about Trump during the campaign when other GOP members were outspoken critics. He does not exactly follow the GOP platform. I think Manafort, Bannon, Conway, Trump, Pence, Priebus, Ryan, and McConnell were all in on it as well as Flynn and Tillerson. I think that Russia has some very damning evidence on Trump and his interests in China and his weird sexual proclivities and planned the entire time to blackmail Trump. I think Ryan, McConnell, Pence, and Priebus just wanted a pliable moron in office to push their agenda for their corporate donors so they would continue to enrich themselves at any cost. I think Tillerson, Flynn, Manafort are all paid Russian stooges. And Bannon just wants to collapse the state for total dictatorial control, and he saw the whole mess as a way to push his crazy agenda.

That's just me, though. If the administration was smart (ha ha) they would throw Flynn under the bus and cut ties to hide their own guilt, kinda like Nixon tried to do with Dean. Except that didn't work out so well, but Congress hated Nixon. This GOP congress will happily sell their souls for money and power, so Trump has some protection if he is smart enough to use it.

Oh yeah. Funny how that works.

BeekeeperBetty-- Something is definitely off, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear it goes up to the top. This just broke today:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/10/politics/russia-dossier-update/index.html

Given the credibility of Steele, I've thought from the beginning that at least some of the dossier is true. Of course, Trump supporters are more likely to believe his version rather than the intelligence agencies'.

My fear about this situation:

img_4206.png

These are the people who made a huge deal out of Hillary Clinton using her private e-mail server because it might have been hacked into by a foreign government. The security conscious ones. Hypocrites. They are actually criminals and traitors. Lock them up!

Hi,

News accounts have verified from 9 different sources that Flynn discussed the removal of sanctions against Russia, the day the Obama admin put on the sanctions for Russian interference in our election. Sources say part of the dossier on Trump has been confirmed NOT to be of a sexual nature but of a political nature. Guess what folks, the Gov't spies on the Russian embassy and has recordings of Flynns conversation with the Russian ambassador. IMO. this is very serious business.

Along with a TV broadcaster, I am wondering if this may rise to the level of an impeachable offence if Trump and his campaign knew or directed actions for the Russians to help elect Trump. I am sure we will hear more in the coming week. As Trump, in his simple language would probably say, BIG NEWS AHEAD!.

Deb and Annette, Do you know what would happen if both Trump and Pence knew of this? Who would become president... Ryan? Please forgive my ignorance.

It sounds as if Flynn, at least, undermined President Obama's foreign policy with Russia. His discussion made President Obama's sanctions meaningless to Russia because Russia had been promised that Trump would undo them.

Callie - I know you didn't ask me, but I saw your question and had time to answer :). Here's a quick screen shot of the current line of succession.

HI,

Isn't this just so unbelievable. I became physically ill last night when I heard it. This morning was just as bad. You wake up and you really wonder how this all happened. (Don't go over it please). Now, I could really cry.

Yes Callie-- Paul Ryan would be Pres--third in line.

This entire thing is just un-real. Except it is real, because this is the level of corruption and utter BS that defines the Trump administration. Flynn needs to be gone. And if Trump and his people knew about this, it's 100% an impeachable offense. I DESPISE Paul Ryan, but even he's looking "ok" at this point. Bad, but "ok".

EDIT: I <3 how CNN is now just putting out there 100% how stupid the WH is. Excerpt from article they have about the corroboration of the Russian dossier.

The corroboration, based on intercepted communications, has given US intelligence and law enforcement "greater confidence" in the credibility of some aspects of the dossier as they continue to actively investigate its contents, these sources say.
Reached for comment this afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said, "We continue to be disgusted by CNN's fake news reporting."
Spicer later called back and said, "This is more fake news. It is about time CNN focused on the success the President has had bringing back jobs, protecting the nation, and strengthening relationships with Japan and other nations. The President won the election because of his vision and message for the nation."

You are not alone in wanting to cry Annette. Just when you think this administration can't get any worse....they manage to out do themselves. The whole country should be angry.

LovesDogs, Spicer is unbelievable!!!

I need to see what spin Fox News gives on the latest developments.... I just don't think it would be good for my health.

Unsurprisingly, there's nothing on Faux about the Russian allegations (because of course there isn't). But I am surprised by this article:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/02/11/reverse-tea-party-republican-officials-facing-more-protests-across-country.html

Essentially it talks about how GOP members are facing lots of super angry people who hate Trump, and how in some ways it's a reverse of what we saw from the "tea party" people. But what's very surprising is that the article doesn't talk about how CRAZY AND OUT OF CONTROL those "liberals" are. Rather it paints an accurate picture of a bunch of people hating Trump and the GOP people who pander to his BS.

Well, excuse my pedantry, but I am a bit of a pedant. Trump and Pence may very well both have known that Flynn was engaged in a mission to undermine President Obama's foreign policy, in fact I think that it is extremely likely, because how else could Flynn have known what concessions Trump would be willing to make to Russia? But that does not mean that we have to think about a successor to President Trump, let alone Vice-President Pence.

Just as the Republicans had no business chanting "Lock her up" when they accused Secretary Clinton of committing crimes with her e-mail, no one has a right to remove the President and Vice-President from office without both impeachment and trials in which they are both found guilty. We cannot simply remove them on hearsay.

But, yes, as was said above, The Speaker of the House is next in line after The Vice-President if the president cannot carry out his duties. Currently that is Congressman Paul Ryan.

Bait much? If and when I have something to say I will say it.

ETA - if it proves to be true I will be very disappointed in Gen. Flynn. What did you expect a conservative to say? "No he didn't do it" ? Gimmee an effing break.

I can't get it to link, but Rachel Maddow had a good breakdown of the Flynn Russia scandal and how the pieces may be falling together.

How about "I can see why liberals are so upset. They have some valid concerns." ?

Why? I am never aforded such. I have my own concerns but don't whoop and holler. I was very frustrated for 8 years but I managed through it without popping a vein. It will be alright and if it sucks then people will vote in 4 years accordingly.

:wavey:

I have come to realize that the left's (PSers included) inability to understand why anyone could vote for Trump is equal to the right's (mine included) inability to fathom the level that liberals have lost their minds since the election. There has to be the same level of incomprehension on both sides. So when you are so frustrated at conservatives please know that most are equally so.

JMHO.

You cannot equate Obama with Trump. Do you not understand that the protests are not because a Republican in office but because it's Trump? Sure, liberals were disappointed when Bush was selected, but aside from being a bit vapid he's not a bad guy. I read a few months ago that he spends his time painting portraits of the servicemen who died during the Iraq war and my heart broke for him. This whole disaster with Trump is completely different than having someone with ideological differences in office. Our country is under siege by a maniac, the Russians, and white supremacists. That doesn't bother you?

If the "left" leaning ideology here bothers you, then I think the other political forum you post on is a better fit for you if you are feeling persecuted here for your political beliefs. I really hope you continue to post otherwise, however. I think we probably have a lot in common. I have family near where you live, and I lived for a lot of years in a nearby state, and I have a great love for that country. But not the winters.

Exactly, Betty.

I would think many of us here voted against Bush, were disappointed when he won, and then went on with our lives. I was one of those people. How anyone can equate Obama with Trump in almost any way is beyond my understanding.

Are you stalking me over there? Make yourself known to me then. They have PMs. I will not leave because I like it here and enjoy it most times. Good debate is a good thing. Besides there are too many idiots and too many people to have a decent conversation over there. And my views don't change here or there as you can see. I do like my local forum there though and will never leave where I live because it is so beautiful. Snow be damned.

As far as being bothered by the booby, not near as much obviously as the left. He was not my or my state's choice. But he is what we have and I have said before that there is nothing I can do but allow our government to operate as it is intended. If he effs up the checks and balances will prevail. People might like Pence less. I am comfortable with his cabinet picks but Bannon is creepy and I certainly hope Flynn did not do this. But it will come out as there is a transcript. I am not going to flip out or lose sleep to my health's detriment for something I have literally NO control over.

Really you are welcome to PM me but I would appreciate you keeping this to yourself. Thanks. :wavey:

I agree with the other posters who said that that one cannot equate President Obama with Trump. One can equate other Republicans with him, like that fool George W Bush who caused the disaster in Syria if you wish. He was elected in a very suspicious way and then had me biting my nails for eight years. But I didn't jump out of my skin about the legitimacy of his presidency. The difference now is that it is Trump, not Bush or Romney who is President that makes him different. But it is also because Trump lies constantly and attempts to trample the Constitution and is totally ignorant of the way US government is supposed to work, something I taught to children who left my classroom far less ignorant than he is right now.

You also wrote (besides writing that Obama was as frustrating to you as Trump is to us) that you couldn't do a single thing about the current situation. But you you could. You posted recently that you wrote to The White House. You can write to other people, too. Yesterday I wrote to both my Senators and my Congresswoman about Mr. Flynn. I said I wanted him removed from office and investigated for any possible criminal activity. I also said I wanted the President and Vice-President investigated for possible criminal conspiracy in undermining President Obama's foreign policy.
