Flush set semi-bezel examples?

Hello all,

I''ll be getting engaged soon, and working with a jeweler to have a ring made. I''d like to be able to show him some examples of what I''m looking for, but haven''t been able to find too many.

I like the look of a semi-bezel setting, but without the pronounced setting around the stone. I prefer that the shank of the ring flow right up to the stone. I know that might not make sense, so I attached a photo of some similar rings.

Does anybody have some other examples of this? Is there a proper way to describe this setting so he knows what I''m talking about?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

To my eyes, all of those would best be described as tension settings, or tension-style settings ....

I really like the settings you have posted but the last one on the right is a tension setting not a bezel set Sorry I am not able to help you with the technical terms but I am sure someone will be able to

I have attached a picture of the WF bezel ring that and the Tiffany''s etoile are the only ones that come to mind readily that I think may be kinda what style your looking for .

The first two appears to be a tension style setting which has a bridge underneath for additional support. The last one on the right is a true tension ring. Would you also consider a Gypsy setting? The example below is quite poor but that''s the best picture I can find on short notice.

Chrono: No they are semi bezel settings. The ring is solid and the diamond is supported by wrapping an edge over it (and the diamond will actually be loose before the edge is folded over).

The last one is a tension setting (actually a compression setting) and the diamond is held by the spring force of the ring on it (with small groves cut into the side of the setting where the diamond is held).

Tension settings are notorious for loosing stones when the ring gets "flexed"- and I''d stay away from them.

Semi bezels are far more secure than anything except a full bezel. Gypsy set may not be very secure. Done right it is secure - but it is very easy to not do right and then it is not secure (and you cannot see if it was done right or not).

I personally like semi bezels...

The second stone (center picture) is possibly a semi bezel as I can see the metal going over the girdle and wraps slightly over it. The 1st stone doesn't appear to be done the same way. To me, it looks like a tension setting from the top (but I can see a bridge peeking at the bottom).

I''m not sure about the gypsy setting, is it just that example or is less of the stone shown than with a semi-bezel? Security seems to be coming up a lot, is there any particular style that I should shy away from? I''m looking for something snag-free which is part of the reason I''ve been going in this direction.

The stone is set flush with and fully encased in the metal.

Do you like full bezels like this one?
