Hi All!

New to this website though I've been reading a lot about diamonds.

I'm eye-ing 2 relatively similar Gavin Brian Blue diamonds atm. They're around the same price and size with very similar 'sparkly' qualities it seems, especially also based on the fact they are stones personally assured by BG himself. From what I understand, 'J''s represent good value and with some fluoresence may also make the diamond look whiter under UV lighting. The 2 are as follows:

1. 1.220ct J VS1 Med Blue Fluo HCA of 1.4
2. 1.211ct H SI1 Strong Blue Fluo HCA of 1.6

Both these stones to me are relatively similar and in real life would probably be difficult to separate for the untrained eye.

Currently, I've got my eyes set on the 1.220 J VS1 with med blue fluo, however I'm having some second thoughts recently as to whether or not I should consider option 2 instead since it's 2 colour grades higher + stronger blue fluo... However, the downside is that the 1.211ct is a SI1 grading and there is a tiny, tiny visible inclusion on the table, which may very well be eye-clean anyways...

Should I reconsider choosing the 2nd option 1.211ct H SI1 over the 1.220ct J VS1 due to the colour grading difference? Do you really think I (or future potential fiance) will notice an obvious yellow tinge?

Thanks!

That BGD Blue 1.211 H-SI1 stone is labeled as eyeclean - I would still confirm that by phone with Brian Gavin or Leslie and then, me personally, I would much prefer an H-color eyeclean diamond (with or without fluor, but especially here with the Strong Fluor) rather than a same-size J-VVS2 diamond with Medium Fluor - for me the VVS2 is overkill in clarity, and to my eyes the J color is easily discernible and the warmth is not to my preference.

Most people can start to see a warm tint starting at I-color stones, and you are considering a J-color... I believe you and your GF will definitely notice the warm tint to the J-stone - whether it bothers you (or her), I cannot say. If in doubt, most PSers recommend staying in the G/H range. Since you are staying at the same carat weight and presumably a similar face-up size (I cannot find the J-stone on the BGD website), if your only concern is the eyeclean status of the H-stone, I'd verify it is indeed eyeclean and go with the H-stone.

I agree, if eye clean I would take the H.
