I don't want to ask successive questions on the site but I searched & didn't see any topics regarding my questions about diamond fluoro & H&A. I am interested in purchasing a loose stone (G color), between 1.00/1.02ct & with excellent symmetry (H&A). My current center stone has faint/slight fluorescence but it's a lower color. This color will be significantly higher, but I don't know if slight fluorescence is needed. I like the effect of flourescence but I know it's not for everyone. Which is a better value?

A) Diamonds w/ H&A & faint fluorescence
B) Diamonds w/ H&A only.

Please help educate me. I love the fluorescence effect, but I know it's not *a requirement*, I just want to know pros & cons of purchasing a diamond that has no fluorescence vs. a diamond with fluorescence...thanks for the help.

Fain fluor is so faint you won't be able to see it, so I'd say it's not a factor.

You'd only be able to detect faint fluor in a room that is dark (as in no 'regular' light) with a UV light on the diamond.

I agree with Kenny that slight fluorescence is inconsequential. You don't need fluorescence in any stone unless you just like it. I do like it but I choose stones based on other factors and if it happens to also have fluorescence, great. If I really wanted a stone with fluorescence, I would choose strong blue. I had a diamond for 25 years with medium blue and seriously never knew it until I took it to a jeweler one day to consider a reset. The main advantage of strong blue is that it usually results in a discount on the stone as compared with one without it.

I would agree with Diamondseeker and Kenny. Faint fluor is inconsequential. Have you looked at any GIA/AGS graded G stones in person to test your color sensitivity? I only ask because I think I recall your original stone being a J and possibly not graded by GIA/AGS. If that is the case, and your original stone was graded by some other lab, the color they call J could be anything but that. It's something you may need to consider when you assess your color sensitivity. Have you looked at at GIA I or J? I am sensitive to color past I (Gia/AGS graded J and downwards) but also have an I stone with medium blue fluor that I love. I also had an H with no fluor and actually prefer the I with fluor that I have.

+1 that faint fluorescence being a non-issue
