Quick question... I found a stone at a local B&M that has a GIA cert that says Fluorescence is "Strong Blue." The stone is an excellent cut, D color, VS2, and everything seems nice. However, under a black light the strong blue is visible although to the naked eye its not... and there is no milky color or anything odd. My concern is that the store is not discounting for the fluorescence and I am not sure if it should impact price. All else being equal should I be concerned? Should it be worth less (all else equal)?

Strong flo usually carries a discount from what I''ve heard, but how much I have no idea.

Quick answer. Yes.

Slow answer. Strong and even medium blue fluorescence in a D color will usually drive down the prices. It’s one of those weird things because it doesn’t usually affect the beauty of the stone but how things appear on paper is as much a driving force for the pricing as how they appear in person. Fluoro is hard to sell online because sometimes it does affect the look of the stone and you can''t tell without inspecting it in person and in a variety of lighting environments. Pay careful attention to how it looks in sunlight.

You can use the tool at the top of the page called ‘pricescope your diamond’ to look up prices on similar stones to get a feel if your pricing is competitive. Most neighborhood stores are a bit more expensive than the guys here but it will give you a good benchmark. You can also compare fluorescent stones with otherwise similar non-fluorescent stones from the same dealer here and get a feel for the difference.
