I need some help from you ladies! I''m getting married in September ''09 and my colors are navy and deep orange. I love the dark orange color of gerbera daisies

and I would love to have them in my bouquet. However, I can''t do an entire bouquet of them because they are also my MOH''s favorite flower ... I couldn''t go stealing her flower! So my idea was to have two types of flowers in my bouquet, give her a bouquet of all daisies, and give my other bridesmaid a bouquet of my second flower. I''m sure my MOH will love her bouquet and then she can use them in her own wedding someday without feeling like she''s copying me.

Now I just need to figure out that second flower! My favorites are tulips which are obviously not fall flowers ... so that doesn''t help. I''ve looked at pictures online, but I''m having a hard time visualizing what particular flowers would look like with daisies. Any suggestions? I''m open to anything that comes in orange!

I''m picturing marigolds, but I don''t know if those would even work in a bouquet!

What about orange lilies (tiger lilies I think)? There's also some beautiful orange orchids but I think they are super pricey. And of course there are are orangey roses.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Scarlet - So you think roses would look good with daisies? I''ve definitely considered them because the centerpieces will be orange roses (comes with the venue and I don''t think I''ll spring for anything fancier) so having roses included in the bouquets would kind of go with the decor already. I just can''t imagine in my head if they would look good mixed with daisies. Maybe I should just buy some from the grocery store and put them in a vase at home to see how they look together.

Roses come in orange. The variety in the picture is called Tropical Amazon. The picture shows the color combination I'm using in my bouquet (yay!). Hopefully a flower expert will chime in soon, but I think a lot of flowers come in orange. In addition to the lilies already mentioned, gladiolas, snapdragons, and alstromeria come to mind.

Thanks for the pic Urseberry! I love those colors. They're just so happy and summery! Which are you using for the bridesmaid dresses?

I guess my primary concern is making sure they look good together. There are a lot of orange flowers, but I don't think they would all mesh well with gerberas and I can't figure out which ones would. It also has to be a flower that can stand on its own in a bouquet (which makes roses attractive). I'll have to look into your suggestions and see if I can find photos of those flowers mixed with daisies.

Ok for suggestions here we go... I don''t know if you are really sold on gerbs or not there are many other options that I think would be really neat if you are only after them b/c of the colour

Calla lilies (come in nice burnt orange colour perfect for fall)
cymbid orchids
freesia
ranunculus
spray roses (min type of roses that are AWESOME)
sweat peas

The type of flowers that you chose are also dependent on whether you are doing a hand tied bouquet or one in a holder (they can faux the holder and make it look like a hand tied by gluing stems around it)

Those are some suggestions to start with but really making an appointment with a florist would be an awesome way to go as they will be able to show you things and help you map out your vision!

They could also spray some greens with a hint of gold to help highlight the rich colour of these flowers which looks DYNAMITE. In addition a flower shop can also ''pump up'' the intensity of these flowers by using a special flower spray paint that is designed for flowers specifically.

If you do a google search hitting google images you will see all kinds of pics of these I just dont have time to download them all and put them in for you tonight.

Hope that helps,
Rebecca

Here''s a pic of some lovely gerbers with some roses. http://www.janellasinvitations.com/5-28-06%20Bridal%20Bouquet.JPG

My personal favorite would be this one with Gerber''s, Roses and Hypericum berries (which come in lots of colors. Greens, oranges, apricots, reds, pinks). This would by my choice if you want Gerbers, personally. In orange, of course.

As sparkle said, have a nice sit down with your florist and see what ideas they have too!

elrohwen, thank you for complimenting my flower colors! I''m not having a bridal party, so there are no bridesmaid dresses to worry about. I will be giving my mother and FMIL corsages, and their dresses are both pink, so their corsages will probably be yellow and cream or orange and cream.

I think roses look good with gerbera daisies.

Wow, thanks Sparkel and Gypsy! The pictures were especially helpful. I do especially love that last one you posted last, Gypsy

My florist situation is a little interesting ... the venue actually provides their in house floral design guy to do the centerpieces and he do your bouquet as well. I guess when the date gets closer I''ll sit down with him first and see what his ideas are. If I don''t like them I can always got to an outside vendor.

And I did see So Cal''s pics. I actually came on to post my question and just happened to see her post. Gotta love her dress and flower choices

It was cool to see my color ideas in actual beautiful photos of someone''s wedding.

I love doing arrangements with gerber daisys and roses. I do really tight arrangments in a round vase with a small neck, so the shape iof the arrangment is very round..I always do this when I have people over b/c its simple...I usually do a paler color rose as the main flower and then stick in brighter colored gerber daisys for the pop of color. Like pale pink roses with hot pink gerbers. I would imagine that it would look just as lovely with orange shades.

I had orange, yellow and lavender for my flowers.

I used yellow, yellow with hint of orange, orange with hint of yellow, apricot and deep orange roses with a few white ones to lift it and some sprigs of lavender, rosemary and other greenery for my bouquet.

I then put gerberas in the big arrangements along with small chrysanthemums and yellow and orange daisy things.
