When I hear this singer I just laugh till my sides hurt.

Florence Foster Jenkins, 1868 - 1944, was a soprano who became famous for her lack of singing ability!
She thought tickets for her concerts sold out because she sang so well, when actually the audience saw her as amusement.
She apparently was so clueless and took herself so seriously that she dismissed the audience's laughs as jealousy.

When her parents (who refused to support her hopeless musical ambitions) left her a fortune she was finally free to pursue her dream.
She performed at the Ritz Carlton in NYC and actually rented Carnegie Hall to give a recital at age 76.

Here are 4 minutes of our dear Florence, if you can take that much.

Enjoy

(EDIT: I've asked admin to move this to Hangout, Sorry.

Oh she was a gem. Really she had pipes of kimberlite, and could cut diamonds with her voice. I have her record The Glory??? of the Human Voice, which also features some disturbing sounds emanating from her husband.

I just discovered a wonderful 15-part documentary on Youube about her.

Here's part 10. click

... and 11 Clicky

OMG, that 15-part documentary was soooooo good.
