Hi PSers.
Recently engaged and was presented with a beautiful 1.53ct radiant FIY (attached- apologies the picture is not the best and it doesn't do my yellow friend justice).

My FI choose the diamond and set it in a temporary yellow gold band so he could propose. I was so pleased with his thoughtfulness, but now after much research I am overwhelmed, stuck and in desperately need some setting advice.

What I would like to achieve out of the setting is to emphasize and highlight the color and cut of my beautiful diamond. I would like something unique that doesn't overwhelm the main stone.

My current likes:
A. Simple solitaire yellow basket, white ring like so http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/semi-mount-cathedral-style-14kt-gold-classic-solitaire-setting

B. Solitaire with 2 side baguettes like these http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10034#f+0/1004/2005/0/0/2005

C. http://mc2jewels.com/ringdesigns/8543.html - I love the contrast between the yellow diamond + platinum, and the unique elegant design on the sides with the 3 little diamonds. I don't like the basket of the main stone - too closed.

D. Art Deco (with some modifications) - http://www.bestdiamonds.co.uk/proddet.asp?id=5&prod=tbl_rarediamonds&controller=ringid
This design is a bit large and overwhelming for me. But I think a single halo modified version would look pretty. I loved the diamonds used for the halo- unique and not like other halos.

Please please give me some feedback and suggestions - I love this forum, I have learned so much from all of you. Thanks.

Congrats! Beautiful stone!

Is this too simple without the halo?

Or also art deco?

I'd personally do very white side stones to emphasize the yellow. Like a three stone. It's a beautiful color and I would personally want the contrast of white diamonds, and no halo.

I'd go for step cut sidestones for the contrast with the radiant faceting.

http://www.sashaprimak.com/pid156 Here's an example of the color and faceting combo and the setting I'd suggest.

And here's one with similar proportions to what I'd suggest (no pave on the shank. Just a plain metal shank) for yours.

I increases your finger coverage and is very lifestyle friendly (no pave) and very elegant.

I love the art deco setting you posted, but I prefer vintage. The settings you posted are all so different, it's really personal preference.

I love option C. but I think that will be quite pricey. I like D. too but with the single halo as you mentioned.

I played around with a baguette halo for my engagement ring. Here's the design I had settled on (my center was an asscher, yours would be a rectangle obviously).

It is an expensive design that few can do well. Period. If you decide to go through with it plan 6k for the setting and I'll be happy to help you find the right person to make it for you.

Ultimately I didn't do it because with a white diamond center it gave the effect of a cluster ring instead of a halo and center. With your beautiful stone you wouldn't have that problem.

I love option C  I think it is just enough to be prettier a then a solitaire but still lets your beautiful diamond be the center of attention. PP was right though it will be a pricy setting, i would suggest getting a custom setting made with that one as an inspiration. There was recently another MC2 setting used as inspiration for a sapphire ring, I think JBEG made the setting. The poster was steveneedsaring if you want to take a look at it.

I would go for the original. NO copy has ever come close to MC2's work on their Flora setting, IMO. I would absolutely not go with an 'inspired by' with this design line. This is one of the few cases where I feel you should pony up, or go with a different design.

It shouldn't cost more than 7k.

I agree, the original is beautiful and the copies just don't seem to have that same effect, IMO.

for inspiration, this is one of my all time favorite settings (harry winston):

Thank you all so much for your feedback!
Slksapphire – the HW rings are amazing, out of this world and massive – my stone looks like a little baby compared to them  That setting is beautiful.

I really like option C & D myself! Mrs. W 514, gypsy and stargurl78 I love love love the MC2 ring – but at $6-7k for the original it’s too much for a platinum band with 6 little stones.

Webdiva – Thanks for the suggestions. I like the band on your first suggestion; the side diamonds are so unique! The bezel setting has always caught my eye and my RHR picture below is bezel ( but I have been advised to not set my FIY yellow in bezel. Something to do with loss of light and less sparkles? (sorry I’m absolutely not good with the diamond lingo).

Gypsy – I like your 3 stone FIY in middle suggestion – but I absolutely love your baguette art deco looking set. Gorgeous! I think it is very close to my art deco suggestion (at least the modified version I envisioned). I would probably just set the main center stone a bit higher than the halo, 1-2mm because I love getting a peak of the FIY side facets.
I think Gypsy read my mind and identified my overall objective for the setting: “increases your finger coverage and is very lifestyle friendly (no pave)” – I think art deco pieces would be lifestyle friendly? Yes?

I really want something different that also matches my other rings – I gravitate towards bigger fun and unique pieces. My RHR is the Van Cleef Alhambra with yellow gold and onyx – I wear it every day and I’m so mesmerized by it that it is not going anywhere - the ring covers the majority of my 5.25 size RH finger and it measures 12x12 mm surface. So I need an ering that can stand up to the right hand VCA piece. Thoughts?
