i''ve pretty much decided on the following stone, but before I commit (having not seen the stone) what would be the propensity of it to fish-eye based on it''s specs (I''m worried about 4.5% STHK-THK girdle GIA with 60% table combination)? It''s a GIA ''very good'' cut but do they take fish-eye potential into account?

Diameter: 6.4mm
Depth: 3.91mm
Depth %: 61.1%
Table: 60%
Crown Angle: 34
Crown Height %: 13.5
Pavilion Angle: 41
Pavilion Depth%: 43
Star Length %: 50
Lower Half %: 80
Girdle thickness: slightly thick to thick 4.5%
Culet: None
*Carat Weight: 1.00

As long as it won''t fish-eye face-up and at moderate tilt angles, I am happy with the stone.

Thanks for your help

I really don't think this diamond will show a fish eye. Also if you run the numbers through the HCA it will normally warn you if a fish eye is a possibility, no such warning in this case. GIA cut grading is parametric based, not sure if they take fish eye into account but I don't think you need to worry in this case.

Thanks Lorelei

HCA didn''t warn of fish-eye, but I''m worried about the thick girdle and relatively big table being a problem. With a big girdle, I assume it will get dirtier, does this lead to fish-eye?

Thanks

This is what a big table may/can mean, as this is what's called a 60/60.

Fish eye is a product of cut, a diamond either has it or it doesn't. It can't "get" it from being dirty.

It should be fine and as El says this is what we call a 60 60 type stone, ( 60% table 60% depth) and these can be very attractive diamonds indeed if the critical angles are good as in this case.

This link explains about fish eye, as Ellen says it has everything to do with overall cut proportions and not with the stone being dirty, I don't think you have any need to worry in this case.

Thanks Lorelei and Ellen

At last I can commit to my purchase.....wish me luck!
