I think SO will be gearing up to do some diamond shopping relatively soon. I'd like to have a few good RB online to show him (may even be able to convince him to purchase online). Here are the details...

- I'm leaning towards something from Whiteflash since I really love their Legato setting.
- I want a RB in the 1-1.3 ct range. Need to keep it under 10k. 7-8k is probably better. Is this realistic? I was thinking 1.2ct in the 8k range. Can you get something good in that range?
- I'm not overly colour sensitive. Would like an I or better.
- I don't know much about cut, other than it's important - is H&A worth it?
- I'm not too sure about clarity... I want something eye clean, obviously, but I'm a bit lost as to the specifics. Should I stay in the VS range or can some SI be ok as well?

Also, I've read the articles on Pricescope about diamonds, but I'm still a bit lost regarding table, depth and some of the more specific details.

For example, is this decent or no?
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-1151326.htm

Any help or examples would be very much appreciated!

Hi there. Yes, it is realistic to get a 1-1.3ct for 7-8k. You can definitely get something good in that range. As for cut, Lorelei has a great cheat sheet that she''ll be along with, I''m sure. If you stick with the ACA line from WF, you''ll be in fine shape. It sounds like you already know your color limit. SI stones can be completely eye clean, so I would say you can look at all SI stones as well. The diamond you found is a great one. Using the cut quality search at the top of the page will give you a great starting point to go from. Good luck, and keep us posted on your search!

Hehe!

Here is said cheat sheet you can use as a guide to help you AB, it should help you with depth, table etc!

depth - 60 - 62% - although my personal preference is to allow up to 62.4%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above

note - with crown and pavilion angles at the shallower ends ( CA 34- PA 40.6) and steeper ( CA 35- PA 41) check to make sure these angles complement in that particular diamond - eyeballs, Idealscope, trusted vendor input - check as appropriate!

That appears to be a lovely stone you have posted above, an SI clarity can absolutely be an excellent choice if eyeclean to your standards.

Thank you, Lorelei. That is a HUGE help!

And thank you, dockman3!

Now that I have a starting point, I can send a few stones SO''s way
