Here is a stone I found and would greatly appreciate any advice on it. It is a James Allen stone and is item number 1277780, for those that would like to view the picture and certificate. Being a new guy to all this I really want to avoid mistakes. The stone appears to have great qualities, but is VVS2 really necessary? It seems to price out in the VS1-2, .70-.73 range so there has to be a reason it is a bit cheaper. I know the strong fluorescence probably contributes to that.

Price: $2470
Shape: Round
Carat weight: 0.76
Cut: Ideal
Color: G
Clarity: VVS2
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 61.4%
Table: 57.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Strong
Measurements: 5.89*5.83*3.60

Hi Axis

The diamond looks great, it has excellent proportions so the next step would be to request an Idealscope image. It is possible the strong blue fluorescence is affecting the price, check with the vendor that it isn't making the stone cloudy, this is rare but best to check.

You could certainly lower the clarity to VS if you preferred or even SI1 if verified eyeclean but its a personal choice.

An idealscope was requested and I should have that later today or hopefully by the end of day tomorrow. This is what the kind gentleman told me in regards to this stone.

"I called the diamond office and had the stone pulled from the safe. Diamond is extremely white, 1,000% eye-clean, perfectly symmetrical and not hazy/oily/milky in any light. Fluorescence has no negative impact at all."

I''m aware that I could drop down in clarity, but the strong fluorescence rating seems to have dropped this particular stone''s price far enough that the best I could otherwise do is a .04 smaller carat stone with a lesser clarity rating. Price is really my main concern. I didn''t originally plan to spend over $2k on the stone, but this appears to be a fantastic diamond and should be worth the added expense.

Looks promising.

It certainly has great potential and thats good you have checked concerning the fluorescence, post the IS when you get it then we can take a look for you.

Just received the idealscope image. Any thoughts?

Need to make a decision on this one. Any help? Seems to look ok to my untrained eye, but I really can''t be certain.

IS looks good.

Looks like a winner!

nice is.

vvs definitely not necessary for eyeclean - you could find an eyeclean si in that size easily. BUT it may be a mind-clean thing..

Good good, reassuring to hear what I had suspected. I realize the clarity really is better than necessary but for some reason it is pricing out right in the VS2/SI1 range so I might as well go with the better clarity stone. 99% sure this is going to be the stone with that sapphire/diamond channel set band, unless of course someone has a reason to change anything.
